I visit owner / winemakers Jonathan & Susan every year, and their wines never disappoint. Visiting Cedarville is by appointment only, but that's actually a good thing - it means that you'll get undivided attention when you're there. The wines are among the best in this part of the Sierra Foothills, and Jonathan & Susan are exceptionally friendly hosts, which makes for a great tasting experience with them. Their cool wine caves are worth checking out, as is a walk out into their vineyard if you have time. Can't recommend Cedarville highly enough - it's a "must" when visiting wineries in the Fair Play area of El Dorado County.

Noted for its Ports and "signature" Zinfandel wines.
I have been going to the Mount Aukum region (south of Placerville, CA) of the Sierra foothills from Stockton since 2003. Single Leaf Vineyards is my favorite winery of the three areas that I regularly taste which includes Lodi and Shenandoah Valley out of Plymouth. Not only do you get to taste a wide variety of their wines (mostly reds), you will find that they usually have a sale on a case of one or two wines which I have always taken advantage. They always have a Christmas sale which sometimes includes buying a mixed variety of their wines to fill a twelve bottle case. In fact, I will be soon be going in December up to Single Leaf to taste their latest wines and to buy a case of their great wine. Red varieties of Single Leaf wines include Malbec, Barbara, Petite Sirah, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, two Zinfandels, and usually a port and/or a desert wine. All their wines sell for under $20 for a single bottle purchase. This is a small family owned winery with high quality non-reserve wines.

Had an awesome time at TooGood! Wine cave rocks, tasting was great, staff very personable and friendly. Went out of their way to accommodate us and said yes to our request for barrel tasting following our regular tasting. If you don’t like this place then you really need a reality check and PLEASE go somewhere else so the rest of us can enjoy it!!

We've been members of Skinner for years and they remain one of our very favorite wineries in the area. Their Rhone style wines are always delicious, we are not white wine drinkers but their varietals are just as good for us as the reds. They have an amazing patio with sweeping views of the countryside that is just as pleasant almost all year round. You can taste inside at the bar or on the patio and take your time savoring their wines.
