January 20, 2022 Phylicia Berquist

The Peloponnese (/ˈpɛləpəˌniːz/) or Peloponnesus (/ˌpɛləpəˈniːsəs/; Greek: Πελοπόννησος, Pelopónnēsos) is a peninsula and geographic region in southern Greece. It is separated from the central part of the country by the Isthmus and Gulf of Corinth. During the late Middle Ages and the Ottoman era, the peninsula was known as the Morea (Greek: Μωρέας), a name still in colloquial use in its demotic form (Μωριάς).

Especially three things make this experience unique: a) tasting the Honey Mead (unique liqueur made of fermented bee honey and water | Hydromeli), which is produced exclusively in Greece by the Sotirali Family from neighboring Neapolis town, which has reinvented and patented this forgotten local traditional recipe, b) tasting the rich flavor of our own extra virgin olive oil Benios made of o local olive variety named "Athinoelia", c) Experience tasting the unique local wine "Malvasia", which was very famous and coveted during the middle ages. I have used this service on two trips back and forth from the airport to central Athens in the last few months (and have another one booked for later this month). On each occasion, the taxi has been punctual to the exact time, the drivers friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and professional. Everything has been perfect - the cleanliness, the Covid awareness, the actual journey - making it totally stress free. Each of the three drivers I have experienced so far ( Dimitris Makrakis, Stefanos Mavridoglou and Stelios Panagiotakis) have been superb.

I had a terrific trip touring Mystras, Sparta, Delphi, Meteora, and Thermopylae with my guide Nikos! Nikos put together a custom itinerary with places in Greece that I had not yet visited. The highlight of my trip was visiting the clifftop monasteries at Meteora. We had marvelous weather for picture taking, and Nikos, knew where the best spots were. Hiking up several of the monasteries was also a unique experiences, and Nikos knew the best ones suitable for me. An AWESOME trip!!
