With beaches, boating, and salmon fishing in Michigan City and Gary bordering Lake Michigan, there is more to Indiana than might appear at first glance. The agricultural heartland even has cross country skiing and snowmobiling to go with the Cornball Express. Southwest Indiana near Evansville is renowned for the well-preserved Native American Angel Mounds State Historic Site. The largest city and state capital is famous worldwide for its Indianapolis 500 race. Even locals living in the suburbs often overlook the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Eiteljorg Museum, NCAA Hall of Champions, the old Union Station museum cluster, and downtown Canal Walk, to name but a few landmarks. South Bend is synonymous with the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.
Forested Nashville’s art colony fame dates to the early 1900s when Impressionist Theodore Clement Steele overwintered in The House of the Singing Winds. It is now the T.C. Steele State Historic Site. I very much like this place, they speak British here. First June/July is sasquatch mating season. The normally shy 1500 pound creatures loose their inhibitions and will be romantically involved anywhere, anytime on anything. If you have young children, older children or adults children they will have a through lesson on the birds and the bees. The sasquaches are gentle giants and will make a purring sounds at night when mating, also FYI they are marsupials. Be sure see the July 4th firefly race next to the Plainfield boat and yacht club. The unlimited class will have over 1500 lightning bugs circumventing a 2.5 mile oval. It second in racing only to the Kentucky derby. Be sure to get a camel steak at the turn 2 concession stand. Also plainfield has the largest populations of camels outside the Mideast. Be sure to visit the Humel Civil War Battlefield. It was the second largest battle in the North. Between the Union Quakers and the Confederate Amish. Over 57,000 Confederate and 80,000 soldier fell. Which makes it one of the most haunted places in the Union. Be sure to take a ghost tour. If you are not a believer you will be! Also be sure go to gravity hill it is near the monument of General Hadly. I have seen balls and even water go up hill. You would have to see it to believe it. It us also s hot spot for UFOs but I did not see any. Be sure to talk to the harbor master at lake Plainfield look up "Captain Denny" he knows the history of the are and is a great resource on what to see. There is also a water part there, but there is no valet service. But other than that it is a nice place.
