A highly recommended destination and tour. Our guide, Sergio, was great. He brought the 2,000 year old artifacts to life with knowledge, charm and enthusiasm. We also appreciated his flexibility, accomodating a last minute change in timing when we were delayed in departing from Palermo.

I traveled with my husband and two grown children to Sicily for the week. We wanted to experience as much as possible of the island's history and although we are interested in archeology and history we aren't very knowledgeable. I asked our hotel to recommend a guide and that's how we found Salvatore. He is an archeologist who really made the site come alive. He explained in an interesting way and in excellent English all about life in this ancient town and the different empires who conquered the land. All four of us truly enjoyed our morning with him. Any questions we had, we got well-informed answers that made history come alive for us. Thanks!!

First a little backstory. My wife and I decided to plan a last minute trip to Sicily during the week of Christmas to New Years. We figured we could put together a nice itinerary before we left. We were wrong of course. So a few days before flying home the Mrs. decided she wanted to visit an olive farm. So late that evening in our room at the valley of the temples I got on Tripadvisor and found AMODEO’S Farm. I tried to get us booked the next day but Tripadvisor wouldn’t take the reservation. About an hour later around midnight I got an email from Francesco Amodeo telling me Saturday would be a good day for our visit. I thanked him and told him we were flying out Saturday and we would see him if we made it back to Sicily. I got another email asking if 1:00 pm the next day was ok and if we needed transportation to the farm and how many guests were coming. We jumped in the Fiat the next day and drove to the farm it was a pleasant scenic drive through Agrigento. We arrived and found a big spread of Sicilian food waiting for us. Francesco spoke very good English and was very personable. He should be the national spokesman for the Italian olive oil industry. So anyway it was just me and my wife as guests. I figured it would be a quick tour of the grove and then buying some olive oil and that would be it. Boy was I wrong, we sat, ate, and drank wine for a couple hours while hearing about the history of the farm, Sicily before and after the earthquake, the olive oil industry, and anything else that came up. Then we went out checked out the farm, learned about growing olives. We went back inside and our table had been cleaned off and we had a second course of food to eat. After we finished, we then learned about the business of the olive oil industry. So we did some olive oil tasting and learned about distinguishing between good extra virgin olive oil and lamp oil. We went back to the table and had wine, Limoncello and cookies. To make a long story longer we happened to look outside and it was getting dark, it was after six we had been there over 5 hours ! We bought some olive oil to be shipped home via fed ex, and Francesco gave us a couple bottles to pack in the suitcases. I was going to buy a bottle of wine ( we didn’t want to stop in the little towns on the way back and deal with trying to find a place with wine plus he opened it because we had no corkscrew ) for our night cap but forgot about it until after we settled up. He gave me a bottle and wouldn’t take my money. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Gina who did the cooking for us. She was awesome, tip her well. We said farewell and Gina packed us our leftovers for us to snack on the next day. I guess what made it so special is that he didn’t have to email back, he could have just enjoyed the holidays with his family but he invited us over and spent the day with a couple of tourists. Go visit the farm it will not disappoint.

I have no words against AGRIGENTO. Marvelous!! You should visit here!! How wonderfull Sicilian people are, they have chrisheded for long time.

We found Michele Gallo through the Rick Steves Sicily travel book. Michele was very easy to work with- contacted us quickly through email and whats app. He arranged for Carmelina to take us through the Valley of the Temples. It was well worth the money to have a guide. The site is large and its hard to understand the interaction between the various temples on your own. The site was closed the day we were supposed to go due to storm damage. Michele notified us the night before, as soon as he learned of the closure. He was able to make arrangements for another day so we did not miss this stunning site. Excellent customer service!

I've been on so many tours during my time as a meeting and event planner. I thought this would be just another tour. I was happily mistaken! Alessandro (the owner/operator) of this Olive Farm was amazing. He speaks English very well (he went to university in Australia), and has a real passion for all things related to olives. He has done a great job at restoring a historic building on his property which houses the "soap laboratory" and a museum about the origins of soap, how to make it, etc. We learned how to "taste" olive oil and determine its "notes", and ended the evening with wine and hors d' oeuvres outside his home. We made our own soap which we took home as memories of our experience. This experience was an amazing value, and we learned things that we will keep with us forever. It isn't a "tour".....it's an Experience!

The Valley of the Temples is one of the most outstanding examples of Greater Greece art and architecture, and is one of the main attractions of Sicily as well as a national monument of Italy. The area was included in the UNESCO Heritage Site list in 1997. The archaeological park and landscape of the Valley of the Temples is the largest archaeological site in the world with 1,300 hectares, but the term 'valley' is a misnomer, the site being located on a ridge outside the town of Agrigento. Through this tour you will have the chance to admire the magnificent Doric temples of the sacred hill, as the Temple of Hera (Juno), the Temple of Concordia, Temple of Herakles (Hercules), the Temple of Zeus (Jupiter) and Sanctuary of chthonic deities. Follow the steps and the words of your expert guide and you will also understand the culture that led to the construction of those majestic structures and you will get to know the characters that made Akragas 'the most beautiful city of mortals'.
Inclusions: Private tour, Expert tour guide
Exclusions: Entrance ticket cost is approximately €10., Food and drinks
