The 10 Best Walking Tours in Mendoza, Cuyo

December 26, 2021 Christa Meece

Known best for its wine, Mendoza is a bustling city to the east of Mount Aconcagua, the highest peak in the Western Hemisphere. Although it draws its share of adventure travelers, lured by the climbing, skiing, hiking and rafting opportunities within an easy drive of downtown, the area’s more than 1,000 vineyards bring oenophiles in even greater numbers.

We took this tour last year. The guide doesn’t speak English at all, and keep repeating the same information over and over. They also don’t let you move and ask you to be next to them all the time. Amazing place but awful guide

This tour was the best part of our trip to Mendoza. Before the trip, I had read a lot about the Uco Valley, and knew that I wanted to hire a private driver to tour the wineries there. Because we were planning the trip last-minute, I took a risk and chose this tour despite the lack of reviews because it described an itinerary that I was looking for and was competitively priced. I was not disappointed. After booking the tour, I reached out to Mariana (contact info was on the Outdoor Frontiers Tours website) since the date of the tour was coming up soon. She was so nice and easy to talk to and was quick to respond to my questions through WhatsApp. She also sent our itinerary ahead of the tour. Sergio was our driver--he was fantastic. He was extremely knowledgeable about the area, and more importantly, he was a very safe driver. He picked us up from our hotel, and we all had an excellent conversation during the drive to the Uco Valley. We visited 2 wineries for a short tour and tasting. They were both small, which made the experience more intimate, and it was cool to see their different styles and taste their unique wines. We had lunch and a wine pairing at the 3rd winery. It was probably the best lunch I had in my life, and it was accompanied by a gorgeous view of the Andes. Uco Valley IS as beautiful as they say. Sergio drove us back to our hotel at the end of the day. The driver, winery visits and tastings, and lunch were included in the price of the tour; tips were not included. So if you are interested in a tour to the Uco Valley, book this one now. You won't regret it.

Uncorking Argentina put together an incredible itinerary for me and my husband when we visited Mendoza on our honeymoon. They followed our requests/budget when planning the activities that had us eating and drinking our way through the region! We absolutely loved our guide/driver Gustavo who was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and who even purchased mate for us as a parting gift! We loved the range of wineries that we were able to visit - from small, boutique wineries to larger scale operations, we really were able to get a feel for the diversity of the region. It took so much of the stress out of trip planning to have Uncorking Argentina make the reservations and schedule everything for us. It was truly the highlight of our visit to South America and we hope to return to Mendoza in the future.

We were lucky to use Sak Wine & Travel for our transfers and both of our excursions in Mendoza. Our guide and driver for our stay was Damian. Damian was very friendly and always on time. His knowledge of the Mendoza region was great, we learnt so much whilst driving around. The excursions we did were Wineries with lunch in Luján de Cuyo and High Andes with trekking - highly recommend both.

We will head southwest on Provincial Route 86, enjoying the landscapes of Cacheuta until we cross the tunnel that connects this town with Potrerillos. We will contemplate the wonderful view of the Cordón del Plata, Mendoza’s main source of water and, of the picturesque Potrerillos Dam, a mirror of crystalline water in the middle of mountains. We will continue along this path, contemplating the unforgettable landscape, going through tunnels and bridges, until we reach the town of Uspallata. Again we will make a strategic stop to get a better view of the Valley as a whole. Already back in the van, we will move a few kilometers, until we reach “Puente del Inca”. Mandatory stop icon of our mountain range. Once we return to the route, the Aconcagua Provincial Park awaits us. There we will obtain the corresponding permits to make a walk of approximately one hour, to the viewpoint of the Laguna de Horcones, where we can see the South Wall and the summit of the highest hill in America.

Inclusions: Round trip transportation * and professional bilingual guide., Technical stop for snack, Technical stop for lunch, Box lunch

Exclusions: Park Aconcagua Entrance fees

This was an excellent trip if you want to get away from downtown Mendoza and experience three great "bodegas" and have an amazing and unforgettable lunch at one of the vineyards. The will seem as a great escape that you can enjoy with with a loved one or friends. All of the vineyards are amazing and each one is unique to its production of wines. You will never forget the experience and it will keep you desiring another visit to the region!
