The 10 Best Walking Tours in Howth, Province of Leinster

April 9, 2022 Randal Brittian

Howth (/ˈhoʊθ/; Irish: Binn Éadair, meaning "Éadar's peak") is a village and outer suburb of Dublin, Ireland. The district occupies the greater part of the peninsula of Howth Head, forming the northern boundary of Dublin Bay. Originally just a small fishing village, Howth with its surrounding once-rural district is now a busy suburb of Dublin, with a mix of dense residential development, quarries and wild hillside. The only neighbouring district on land is Sutton. Howth is also home to one of the oldest occupied buildings in Ireland, Howth Castle. It has been the site of filming for many films.

Jay and his team were excellent during our recent trip to Ireland. We were a group of 16 with 4 children and used their services for our trips to and from the airport and also to and from Trinity hotel for our daughters wedding. They were on time, helpful and a lot of fun. Despite the city closing down they remained available to us for any questions and concerns. Highly recommend their services.

I loved these tours. Took them back in April of 2019. The first tour I took was a walking tour of Dublin. Ciaran was the tour guide. He was a total history buff and made the tour super interesting. The next day I went on a tour to a seaside village called Howth. I had a tour guide named Stephen. He was very cool and even preformed Shakespeare in the woods for his group. I hope to take these tours again one day.

My husband and I had a fantastic time on Shane’s Howth adventure. As we are coming out of lockdown in Ireland, this was a great choice for safe outdoor fun. Our tour guide Gus was full of fun facts and historical references. To top it off, we got to spend the day with Jesse the dog, our tour guides dog, who came along with us. Howth is a beautiful place with flowers in bloom, gorgeous views at the top of the hike and even Llamas. It was my birthday the day we went and it was an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended for your next outdoor adventure in Dublin.

We met John by great luck. We were not looking for a tour guide but are so glad that we decided to take a tour with John. His knowledge of history was amazing and the stories he told were so interesting. We had 2 teens with us and they enjoyed the entire tour. John was captivating and inspiring. He also recites a couple of poems that were so touching and written by his truly. If you have a chance to tour with him do it. The cliffs are beautiful and with John's insite they become that much more marvelous. He also gave us lots of tips on where to go and suggested both the leap card that if we had would have saved us a pretty penny on a taxi ride and he also gave us a name of a place to camp that we really enjoyed. If you tour with John you won't regret it.
