Took the 730am high speed train from Xi’an to Luoyang and was met by Jerry, our local guide. Speaks good English and very friendly. Together with the local driver, they gave us an unforgettable day in Luoyang! First stop, the Grottoes! It’s unbelievable. Got to see it for yourself and you would be left wondering how it was done thousands of years ago. As we went on a public holiday (5th April), the queue and number of people were unbelievably long! Long walks and some steep climbing required. Please be prepared for this. It was also very, very hot so stay hydrated. Toilets are easily available and relatively clean. We took a boat ride back (not included in the tour, RMB25 per pax) and had a wonderful last look at the Grottoes. Went for lunch at a local restaurant (at our request) and Jerry ensured that we sampled some very nice local dishes! After lunch, we went to see Peonies which my wife loved it. It was also the first day of the peony season and we were lucky to be there. Lots of Sakura/ Cherry Blossom trees as well. But it was too hot and this took some fun out of the visit. Tour ended around 4pm so if you are going back to Xi’an, you can take any train after 5pm.

An yang is the earliest city excavated in china with a history of about 3400 years . it located in the lowwer reach of yellow river.it has ever been one of the capital cities of shang dynasty. palace and temple museum was built on the original excavation site . i would like to say the museum is a time tunnel through which you travel and explore on chinese civilization. the most impressive thing is the earliest chinese writing which is called turtle shell and bone inscription. beyong the writing ,they are the historical recorder. national museum of chinese writing is very unique museum ,it show you the evolution of chinese writing. you can not find same museum in any other place of china.

Lily was a wonderful tour guide! I had been to the Terra Cotta Warriors site before, but I didn't realize how much I didn't know until Lily showed us around. She was knowledgeable, friendly, engaging and she catered to our wishes. She even suggested the perfect restaurant for lunch afterwards and introduced us to a variety of teas that we sampled (before purchasing, of course :) Lily was patient with us (there were three of us in our little group and we each went at different paces) and she was easy to spend time with. We never felt rushed. She also knew a few shortcuts, for example, taking the tram to the site, which saved us time and energy. Very impressive, especially the building, designed by I M Pei. Also the palace adjacent to the museum with historical significance, all in all, enjoyable visit if you are interested in Chinese ancient art and history.
