WANDER COMPASS BEPPU is an unconventional tourist information center in Beppu. We provide wide range of services for those traveling in Japan. Services provided include itinerary support, lounge with wifi, guides and many more. There is also “Tomodachi Guides” or “Friend Guides” who could assist you in creating the perfect plan from scratch and guide you around. Don’t have any plan yet? Please feel free to stop by anytime during your Beppu Trip :)
I came to Beppu with a friend for a one day trip and visited Wander compass. As I had already been here for the famous Jigoku, Onsen and steamed food (that i recommend), we decided to rent the shop bicycles and opted for a ride along the beach, after visiting the local park to see the Plum trees and bamboo. We finished the day with a more local experience in the oldest onsen for Ashiyu and Sand bath! (Try the mud or sand bath while in town). We had a great time spending the day with the staff member (Chika). They will guide you through all the common and less common spots and activities in town depending on what you’re looking for! The shop is located at the station so i recommend you to pay a visit if you are in town :)

In the northern region of Oita Prefecture there are eight municipalities with a history spanning over 1,000 years from the distant past, through ancient times, the Middle Ages, and up to the present day. The history that has shaped modern Japan is ingrained in its memories and has been carved into this region. The start of history in this area begins with the combining of Buddhism and Shinto religions at the Usa Shrine about 1,300 years ago. The fusion of the cultural beliefs between Shinto gods and Buddha is a kind of culture not seen anywhere else in the world, and perhaps it is precisely because of this that it has become a cornerstone of the essential Japanese spirit. This culture of fused religions from Usa and the Kunisaki Peninsula has proved to be timeless, and still remains today as the Rokugo Manzan culture.
Definitely a place to visit if you are interested into visiting some areas of Kyushu which are mostly unknown to tourists. The staff is extremely friendly, kind and helpful always smiling. Their leaflets are in English and full of interesting information about the whole region, culture, outdoors, festivals, they have everything! Totally recommended, through their tours you can experience the real authentic Japan!
