Get hands-on with Western history at the California Trail Interpretive Center, where visitors can immerse themselves in the experiences of emigrants and Native Americans during the United States' period of Western Expansion. Programs and live demonstrations every day: the calendar is on our website. Fun and educational for all ages, with hiking trails for the more adventurous sorts!
If you have an interest in pioneer history, or you just need a great rest stop with clean restrooms, stop at the Interpretive Center! It's great! It's also a great place to take kids, especially if they are learning about history. You could seriously spend several hours there! In the past, they have one weekend in late May or June, when they have something like living history days. Outdoor displays and activities. People dressed in period costumes, etc. It's seriously great! Plan to spend the night in the area though because you will be tired from all the fun!

Guests entering the lounge will receive unlimited amenities that include hot and cold food and beverages, comfortable and relaxing seating with plenty of power outlets, high-speed Wi-Fi, local and national newspapers and up-to-the-second flight information. Every Escape Lounge menu is developed by an award-winning local chef.
We did not know there was an Escape Lounge in Reno until we reached the airport. This lounge is a huge plus for travelers going out of Reno. Very nice service and food options. Fresh fruit, real eggs (as opposed to powdered), lots of coffee options, etc etc. It makes waiting for the plane easy.

Tour the lovely grounds of this historic complex which includes: the Nevada State Capitol building, an architecural marvel made of native sandstone with marble hallways, the Legislative Building, the Supreme Court and the State Library and Archives.
We had 20 minutes to kill and took a stroll through the grounds of the capitol. We thoroughly enjoyed the wide variety of plants and trees, many labeled. It was something our 88 year old mom could safely enjoy. The statues were interesting and the grounds well kept. This is a very inviting capitol.

I stopped at this Visitors Center prior to boarding a shuttle to the Thunderbird Lodge tour. The center has LOADS of information about the Tahoe area, and both of the employees were very pleasant and willing to share detailed information about what is in in the area, based on my questions. They were able to offer suggestions about several area hikes, natural sights, and even some shopping tips! The center also has lovely grounds surrounding it, and there is even a little room of Ponderosa memorabilia in the main building. This center really exceeded my expectation of a ‘visitors center!!’
