Best known for its incredibly edible contributions to world gastronomy (especially parmigiano cheese and Parma ham), Parma has also been revered by opera lovers (who flock to its Teatro Regio) since the days of Verdi, who was born in nearby Roncole. Parma’s many historic sights include the 11th-century cathedral and its baptistry. Begun in the 12th century, it's considered one of medieval Europe’s most important buildings for its straddling of the Romanesque and Gothic architecture periods.

I couldn’t put correct date on this review - I did this tour with my two children in August 2019 and originally posted it then. I have had a message to say that I had posted it under the wrong company (one with a very similar name). I would like to re-post the review as we had such a brilliant day with our guide and would like to recommend the tour company to others whenever this type of activity goes ahead again! Our guide Ms Ivanova was very knowledgeable and friendly. The tour took in many places around the city and we also visited the Uffizi in the afternoon. I was with my children aged 6 and 9 and both really enjoyed this day. They felt included and learned a lot. The guide met us at the times planned and gave plenty of opportunities for questions and were able to answer any queries. Everything was organised well and went smoothly. We were unable to book a tour inside the Duomo but actually this one which took us all the way around the outside and to other fascinating parts of the city was perfect for my family.

My wife and my parents signed up for this not knowing what to expect. We were so happy we did. Paola was a fantastic host and we had a great time making pasta and famous Parma dishes. Her husband Mario joined us for dinner and we had a lovely time speaking to them about Italy and the world during dinner. Mario even drove us back to our hotel when we were concerned about finding a taxi. A highlight of our trip to Italy, it was really everything we were hoping for. Thanks Paola and Mario!!!

We had an incredible day with our guide, Alice. She has studied Food & Wine and is incredible knowledgeable. But the real value came from her incredible capability to explain the science behind the cheese and ham making in a way that will get you even more excited about the product, rather than distracting you from the end product. Moreover, ask her anything. I wanted to know everything from the people behind the scenes, chemical processes and statistical figures on the market. She knew it all. It was fantastic and we thank you a lot!
