He ensured my safety and took me on several additional walks at the various huts where we stayed. We had fun and very interesting adventures. The rest of the team included a fantastic chef, Yona, who created spectacular dishes including a celebratory cake for us after finishing the climb. High in the northeast corner of Nepal’s Taplejung district lies Kanchenjunga South Base Camp. Kanchenjunga (8,586 meters/28,169 feet), the world’s third-highest mountain, straddles the border of Tibet, India, and Nepal, standing tall above. On one of Nepal’s most remote trails, the Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek provides the adventure of a lifetime. Learn about the local Rai, Limbu, and Tibetan villagers who call this place home. Though they are all Nepalese, each group speaks their own dialect, practices their own rituals, and has their own customs. Also, home to this region is rare animals, such as the Himalayan Tahr, Himalayan black bear, musk deer, the snow leopard, and even the sly Red Panda. For the birders out there, you’ll have the opportunity to see, snow cock and pheasant, among others. If you are up for a journey that is comparable to the Everest Base Camp Trek in terms of views, but with far fewer trekkers, the Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek is perfect for you.

This was an absolutely amazing trip. Pasang arranged all the details for smooth transport from the airport to my hotel, where he and my guide updated me on additional info for the trek. Transportation and accommodations were all safe and comfortable. Great food at each of our stops. Pasang and Nema are both welcoming, with a great sense of humor, care for safety, and awareness of different levels of support that participants require. This trek is doable with moderate fitness level and some basic training. Pack light! I also brought a water bottle with a built in filter, which made it easy to fill up at the water foundations regularly along the path. Pasang went above and beyond and arranged a quick tour through some of the must see sites and stupas in Kathmandu before I had to get to the airport. I only had a short time to stay in Nepal this trip, but would definitely come back for a longer and more extreme adventure with Pasang and his crew. Cannot thank you enough for making me feel safe and comfortable on this trek!
