This city on the central Vietnamese coast is a well-preserved example of the important Southeast Asian trading port it was from the 15th-19th centuries. Already a common stop for backpackers, it is becoming better known to tourists. On the 14th day of each lunar month, the town trades its electric lights for traditional colored lanterns. Sights include the Japanese Covered Bridge and the Quan Cong Temple. Let the town’s expert tailors make you some bespoke clothing.

Sunset Kayak. Stunning! The taxi collected us from our hotel and took us to the kayak centre which was a few miles out of town. Whilst the kayak centre is just alongside the main river, the route was on the quieter side waters allowing for a relaxing and calm kayak back towards the centre of Hoi An. Our guide was keen to share Vietnam history and route information with us which added to the overall experience. We arrived in Hoi An at sunset to beautiful views. This really is an amazing tour and should be on your list whilst in Hoi An! Make sure you have a good camera! You will want to remember this experience for a long long time!

I was very fortunate in visiting on a sunny, cloudless day, if a little hazy. I found the bridge somewhat disappointing, not being as long as I had anticipated and full of tourists intent on blocking the entire path taking pictures of their partners. The gardens however were very impressive and I was fortunate in catching the dancing show. It is a further 750,000 dong to go on to Ba Na Hills, It certainly is a long cable car ride and the site on the top of the mountain is impressive, probably reflecting the high cost of the ticket. This seemed a Disneyland copy but without the crowds, thankfully due to the virus. It seemed full of restaurants which I did not check to see were open. There were amusements and the shortage of visitors gave me the opportunity to ride a dodgem car and go on the roller coaster which goes down the mountain and, somewhat surprisingly, has a handbrake. I enjoyed the day but it is expensive for what is there but if I had chosen a wet day, I would have been very disappointed since the outdoor features and views are the main attraction.
