Rural Istria is rich with medieval hilltop villages, vineyards, olive groves, meadows and forests – the area is very pleasant for touring on a bike. Our route includes Oprtalj, Groznjan and Motovun charming hillside towns where we will have time for a short walk and exploring. We will also cycle the Parenzana, an old railroad bed now known as a mecca for cyclists. As we travel down to the Mirna River Valley, we will enjoy magnificent views of the countryside from the trail. This is a 42km round trip and ends at the starting point. Most of the route follows paved roads with little traffic, but part is on packed dirt and gravel. The trip is a moderate level of difficulty. There is an option to do an E-bike version of the trip for those who are not avid cyclists and/or for those who want to make this cycling experience more relaxing.

Enjoy a day of visiting the main features of coastal and inland Istria. Join me in discovering the amazing history, culture and local life of the hilltop towns of Motovun, Groznjan and the beautiful coastal town of Poreč. Learn about the differences of living on the coast vs hinterland, notice the differences in food, local customs and people. We will visit one of the main truffle producers so you can taste the magical ingredient that has marked the gastronomy of the Istrian hinterland. Among the beautiful views of the land and the sea we are going to have lunch in a local inn (konoba) where the food comes directly from the owner's garden. We are going to walk the ancient town of Poreč through its narrow cobbled-stone streets constructed by the Romans in the 1st century B. C.
Inclusions: Lunch in a local tavern (konoba) with fresh produce right from the owners garden., Truffle tasting in Motovun, taste the local produce of the area

We booked the half-day wine tour visiting Benvenuti in Kaldir and Matosević in Krunčići. Our guide Agnieszka picked us up in Rovinj at 9:30 and we spent the entire day together. She was very helpful and informative, sending information in advance over email and had great knowledge about the wines and vineyard culture once we arrived at each winemaker. It was great to spend the day with a local who was so passionate about wine and could suggest other wineries to go to on our own after the tour. The tour itself was very comprehensive and we enjoyed visiting 2 boutique family-run wineries. Each winery had multiple glasses of wine along with small snacks of cheese, meat, and olive oil. In between each visit we also stopped at scenic view points to take pictures of towns such as Motovun and Pazin. Agnieszka was helpful throughout the day answering questions. Even after our tour we kept in touch and she went above and beyond by helping us to figure out how to bring a few bottles of wine back home with us. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone who is interested in wine and seeing the surrounding areas of Istria.

Discover the best of Istria — Croatia’s northernmost peninsula, famous for its spectacular scenery — during this 8-hour, small-group tour. Led by a local guide, you’ll visit four of the region’s historic, medieval-era towns: Motovun, Grožnjan, Oprtalj and Završje. Between the four, discover 13th-century ruins, views of the Motovun Forest, local galleries and artisan boutiques, and sites of Croatian cultural heritage. You’ll be transported between the four by comfortable, air-conditioned minivan, but will also do a fair amount of walking in each destination.
Inclusions: Taxes, Local guide, Transport by air-conditioned minivan
Exclusions: Food and drinks, Gratuities
We rode through some spectacular scenery, The electric bikes were great, and had very good batteries. However, I would not recommend Fiore for several reasons, mainly safety. 1. Far too much of their trail is on busy main roads, and their notes and maps need to be updated. a. Riding into Pula could have been along a coastal cycle/walkway, which would have been much safer. b. Their instructions aren't correct. 2. They do not give any information about major roadworks, nor road-closures because of a major Slovinian Ironman competition which forced us off cycle trails and onto major highways. 3. The bike tires do not have enough grip for the dangerously slippery Croatian roads when it's wet or rough. 4. Their helmets are old and do not meet safely standards. I crashed off, and had to go to hospital for facial xrays yet they didn't replace my helmet, nor were they interested when I stated they should throw it out as it would be compromised because of the crash. 5. They should fit helmets the night before cycling starts to ensure riders all have proper fitting helmets. One of our team had to wait 3 days before they gave her an adjustable proper fitting helmet. They should also give out instructions and maps the night before to give cyclists a chance to read instructions.before starting out. 6 The company should have their bikes insured as part of their hire agreement. The staff were friendly and office staff were quick to communicate, however the company should arrange to meet clients at the end of the tour, instead of just arranging for gear to be left at the last hotel.
Enjoy cycling through the charming medieval towns situated on a hilltops, framed by Mirna river, through tunnels and bridges.
