This ancient Ming dynasty town was called the Far Away town, or the Hidden Town. It is indeed far away and nested in a deep valley north east of Kaili. Despite a very touristic side, the architecture remains stunning and some ancient courtyard homes can be visited.
At night, all the waterside houses are lit, as well as the antique bridge and central pagoda. Stunning.

The Wu Yang River scenic area is close to Zhenyuan town.
From the car park and entrance (fee 100RMB) you walk about 10-15min to an area where there are small food stalls, washrooms and where you can board a boat (40RMB) to take you on a 45min cruise up and down the river. Although the river did not appear very clean and the water levels seemed very low (Guizhou I understand is experiencing a severe drought) the scenery is nevertheless very beautiful.
The boat trip comes with a Chinese language guide - some people may find the constant commentary (at least down river) distracting or perhaps even irritating.
The reason I rate this place as only average is due to the rather expensive entrance fee and the seperate fee for a boat trip.
There is little information available other than in Chinese as this attraction seems to be visited mainly by domestic tourists.

This is a group of mountain side temples on the right bank of the Wuyang river in Zhenyuang. There are Buddhist, Confucian and Taoist temples. The site offers a breathtaking view over the ancient Ming town. There is also a small interesting museum at the foothill and a former assembly hall where currency exchange was handled. A must.
The site gets lit at 19:30pm and there is a short but amazing changing color display, after which the lighting sets still. Don't miss it. After this, only the bridge will keep changing color.

The wall can be accessed from the Shipingshan park (石屏山) which requires a ticket during working hours. If you get there before 7am or after 6pm then there is no one to collect the payment and you can just go up.
Alternatively you can access the wall from the other end of town via an alley near Longquan Inn Walk the steps until you reach a T junction, turn right you can reach a temple which is near the Shipingshan end of the wall. Turn left and continue to go up and you will find the other end of the wall and a fantastic view of the Zhenyuan town.

History of Zhenyang displayed in several open rooms. Some pictures ( the most recent) need refreshing.
