Oct 16 After a quick visit to Jade Dragon Snow Mt, Blue Moon Valley and Lake, we saw the afternoon Lijiang Impression Show performance. Although we arrived about 10 min late, we were able to squeeze seats at different spots. Then we went to Baisha Ancient Town and stopped at the Baisha Naxi Embroidery Institute along the main street. In the front room we viewed novices and experienced artisans producing hand-made objects d'art. Then a salesperson took us into the gallery and showed finished works. I looked at several and bought a beautiful grouping of colorful koi fish in a circle embroidery that took 1 month to finish. I paid 500 RMB. I plan to show it in the house.

Also known as Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, the snowcapped Yulong Mountain is a sanctuary for rare animals and plants.
We didn’t want to take a cable car up the mountain so went out from Lijiang in a taxi to the mountain - the entrance fee to the mountain park is 100Y per person. At the tourist centre the buses for Blue Moon Lake/White Water River are downstairs (the buses to the glacier cable car are on the level you enter at). The ticket for the bus to Blue Lake was 20Y - Blue Lake is the second stop on the bus. While it is a bit odd that Blue Lake is man-made the location does give spectacular views of the mountain. Getting a bus back to the tourist centre was very orderly. We had organised for our taxi driver to come back to pick us up which worked out well.

Ancient forest, grazing yaks and Yulong peaks on the background! To go there, first of all, you need to take a big blue bus at the bus stop near the Ancient City Zhongyi Market (Lijiang Old Town), ask a driver if it goes to the Jade Dragon Mountain, just in case. You'll be charged 100 RMD at the entrance, the bus will drop you off near the tourist center. Then you need to turn around and follow the signs to the Spruce Meadow Ticket office, where you'll pay 60 RMD for BOTH WAY cable cat. Then you take a local bus which goes to the Blue Moon Lake spot, there, on the right hand, you'll see Spruce Meadow Ropeway. When you are there - take your time, don't rush!

When you stay in Lijiang, you can’t help but notice Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. So it is great to know that you can travel up it. I hired a driver through the Hilton Garden Inn for 500RMB. She picked me up at 7.30am and dropped me off at 7pm. We did Yulong Glaciers, Yak Meadow and Baisha Ancient Village, including the Embroidery Museum. Long day, but worth it. 130RMB to enter the Park. 100RMB (I think) for the cable car up to glaciers. There’s a queue to get on the bus. A queue to buy your ticket and a queue to get on the cable car. Once you are finally in the cable car it is awesome. I was lucky. We had occasional breaks in the clouds and once up amongst the glaciers - it was amazing. I really loved the altitude signs. When the wind blows it is certainly fresh, but in July the puffy jacket was over the top.

It took four people at my hotel and one on the phone to convey "Yuhu/Xuesong" to my Naxi taxi driver but the village does still have Naxi living in it, traditional architecture, and the historic home where Joseph Rock lived for many years. Definitely worth visiting, very close to the Yuzhuqingtian (Jade Pillar Supporting the Sky), another taxi/bus challenge to reach but also worth the effort. Yuhu, #14 bus, 2¥, or 300¥ all day round trip taxi from Lijiang including Yugengsi, Baisha, Yu zhu qing tian, Yufensi, and Fuguo Temple.

Visiting this place gave us an idea of how Naxi people lived and practice their trades in embroidery, music and crafts. Pleasant stroll through the town provided memorable views
