The 10 Best Things to do in Yishun, Singapore

August 14, 2021 Flossie Demartino

The Singapore cityscape looks like it was ripped from the pages of a science fiction comic book. If you’re hungry for a true Singapore experience, sample the myriad street foods or take a cultural cooking class. The Botanic Gardens and the Gardens By the Bay offer a slice of horticultural heaven, and the observation deck of the Sands SkyPark makes you feel like you’re high above the clouds. The banks and walkways along the Singapore River bustle with local activity.

Thomson Nature Park

Visited my old village which brought back many old memories happy and sad part of my growing up. Thank you for all the lessons you gave me. Things end but memories last forever. When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure which brings tears and smiles. Thomson Nature Park, located between Old Upper Thomson Road and Upper Thomson Road. Explore the five trails spanning 3.8 km around the former village's road network created by NEA. It brought memories to the way of life during my kampung days. It is also a life show case of the variety of floral and faunal species found among the ruins.

Lower Seletar Reservoir

Reviewed By Kim025Singapore - Singapore, Singapore

In 1986, Sungei Seletar Reservoir was created by damming the river mouth of Seletar River. In 1992, Seletar Reservoir was renamed as Upper Seletar Reservoir while Sungei Seletar Reservoir was renamed Lower Seletar Reservoir. The dam is known as the Yishun Dam. I started my walk from Khatib MRT station and walked a short stretch of Khatib Bongsu Park Connector before crossing the roads to arrive at Lower Seletar Reservoir Park. In June 2010, the ABC Waters feature at Lower Seletar Reservoir was completed turning it a hub for water activities and outdoor learning. The ABC Waters Learning Trail includes 1) information panels on the history of Lower Seletar Reservoir along the Heritage Bridge 2) Viewing Gallery on the Bridge is designed to look like the fishing kelongs in the past at Seletar River. The Heritage Bridge also offers visitors a panaromic view of the reservoir and the nearby Orchid Country Club's golf course. 3) Fishing is allowed at a jetty. 4) Litter Trap is a floating device that retains litter from our waterways, acting as a barrier. The litter is then removed from the container in the device so that only clean water is allowed to flow into the reservoir. 5) Rain Garden collects rainwater run-off that flows from the park and the filtered rainwater is then further treated and reused in the water play area and wading stream in the Family Bay area There are many trees and flowering plants to beautify this park and provide shade on hot day. After enjoying this park, we crossed the road to take bus 117 to Rowers’ Bay near to the Yishun Dam at the far end of the Lower Seletar Reservoir. After our walk along the park at Rowers' Bay, we took bus 117 again to have set lunch at French restaurant, Five by San-Facon, at the Oval.
