Uyo Uyo Archaeological Site

We stayed in a nearby hotel and visited Uyo uyo by walking. I would not drive far and make a detour. If you are around, its worth visiting this place and understand the theories around its history and (more beautiful) enjoy the view through the valley from Uyo uyo.

Colca Zip-Lining

The newest extreme adventure in the Colca Canyon is a must-do while visiting this natural wonder. Only 5 minutes away from Chivay, next to "La Calera" hot Springs. A series of increasingly exciting rides can be combined with some rock climbing. Courses range between 2000 and 6500 feet at speeds of 50-70 MPH. All this in beautiful scenery, with breathtaking views and friendly company. Fun for all ages!

Three different zip lines across the canyon. Great fun and felt perfectly safe. Would recommend a visit to the thermal baths just 300m away afterwards.Hello Sue! The local people set up stalls for the tourists and locals dance in the square in the mornings. As night after the tourists have gone it is a sleepy place where you can really see what it is like to live here,

La Calera Thermal Waters

Reviewed By UrbanDrifter - Melbourne

We spent no more than 90 minutes here, soaking up the warm water does have a time limit. There are two sections, one for the locals and one for the tourists. The tourist one has changing rooms, showers (you're expected to shower before you enter) and a little shop that sells cold beer and there are changing rooms.
The fabulous photos online must have been taken by professionals because I just couldn't capture the awesomeness that everyone elses pics seem to have.
Not wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Good parking.

Immaculate Conception Church

Reviewed By Brun066 - Florence, Italy

Like most tourists, I visited this church during a brief stopover of our tour while riding from Chivay to Cruz del Condor.
The church seems over-sized if referred to the actual importance of the town; but to know that Yanque throughout the whole colonial period was the capital of a province (that of Collaguas) helps to explain this apparent contradiction.
The church attracts attention for its original constructive features. For example, the part facing the "Plaza de Armas" isn't the facade, but it's the church side. The center of the wall hosts a lavishly decorated portal; while the façade, which has two stocky bell towers at the extremities, is almost hidden, secluded, from the square; even though the part between the bell towers is completely covered by other valuable bas-reliefs.
The church is almost white colorured, because it was built in the typical lava stone called "sillar" (with which almost all the ancient city of Arequipa is built). The dramatic effect was further exalted by this mole of candied stone, lit by the morning sun in Austral winter.
Bell towers, as I have said, are stocky, that is, low and wide. This is probably a precaution to defend against the frequent earthquakes that affect the region. In fact, when we visited it, the bell tower on the left of the façade was closed in a wooden scaffolding, due to the earthquake damage of August 2016 (which caused in Yanque the destruction of many "adobe" dwellings, and four deaths). But the church was even razed to the ground by another earthquake in 1668, about a century after the former church was built.
In comparison, the interior of the church is less illustrious. The monument in any case is worthy of a careful and informed visit.

Planetarium & Observatory Colca

Reviewed By Jules186230 - Jersey, United Kingdom

I can't recommend the Planetarium and Observatory in Chivay highly enough. Edgar & Luis are both very friendly and knowledgeable. They are keen to answer any questions and make the whole experience welcoming, fun and educational. The visit stars with a 20 minute insight the constellations followed by admiring through the telescopes the constellations, planets and our own moon. The highlight for me was seeing Saturn and it's rings. I was the only person at my visit and nothing was too much trouble at all, the weather was kind and overall I was extremely pleased and would advise any Colca Canyon visitor to call by and support this great venture.

Bit of a walk down hill. So up on the way back. Beautiful and relaxing. The area around the Springs very beautiful. There are the Springs that are man made pools on one side and the natural on the other side of the road. We did natural. 3 pools 3 different tempatures very clean. You must cross a river to get to, via wooden planks.

OK. Yes it felt good but so does a hot shower. This is basically a hot pool (it is a pool) to soak in. Nothing miraculous about it. Also nothing natural. If you've seen natural hot Springs, this is not it. But if you like hot tubs after a long day, sure, why not!

We met Wilbur through the company that arranged our 2day 1 night trip to Colca. We did the standard sightseeing plus a 4 hour trek through the Yanque valley. The horse riding is one of the best activities that we have done in Peru, Wilbur is friendly and patient, just like the beautiful Peruvian paso horses that he breeds. Recommended, we would love to return.
