We went to Toyota Park to enjoy a Chicago Fire soccer game with children and grandchildren. This is the second time that I visited the venue (the first time was a couple of years after it opened). I was pleasantly surprised to find a well maintained, efficiently operated, secure, family friendly venue. The food and beverage vendors were reasonably priced (for a sports venue), easily available, and the food was very good. The staff was friendly, helpful, and polite. In short, our visit to this venue was a totally enjoyable experience. A bit of advice; if attending an evening event find seating on the west side of the venue, otherwise you'll be looking into the sunset.

Resurrection Cemetery & Mausoleums

Certainly, one of the more interesting things about cemeteries is the old architecture and headstones. Resurrection does not disappoint in that regard. The cemetery also has been the site of several sightings of "Resurrection Mary", though I have a feeling that some of the sightings are after a long night of drinking in the local bars.

We are so lucky to have this beautiful entertainment center just a few miles away. The center features 2 theaters, one large enough to hold concerts, choral groups and top entertainers. There is plenty of parking (free) and they usually have light refreshments (coffee, sweets, etc) available for sale. The Art Gallery is usually open before and during the intermission.

Lake Katherine Nature Center

Reviewed By EJJourney

Lake Katherine is a botanical garden in Palos Heights, right off Rt 83 near 76th that includes woodlands, prairie, wetlands, and formal gardens. There is a nature center that is fun to check out, a mile loop walking trail around a ten acres lake. I rented kayaks for 2, single but they also have canoes, and double kayaks for rent. There are workers who give you life jacket, brief kayaking tips, and help you get in/out of the water. No escorted. Calm waters. We saw heron, geese, ducks, turtles, and fish. Very pleasant. I reserved ahead (very easy with phone call) and was glad.. Some people came in as we were there and asked about renting a kayak... No luck, they were all booked up. The nature center closes @4, so that is the latest you can kayak. Free parking. You can bring a picnic lunch if you want. Beautiful grounds. They also rent out for events.
Tomorrow is the Butterfly Festival. Lots of things to do check out the web site. Kid friendly. Bathrooms on site.

Standard Bank Stadium

Reviewed By lynne p - Hobart, Indiana

This is an OK stadium, nothing to write home about. It's affordable fun if you want to get out and see a game. I don't think it's worth driving 45 minutes for as we did. It's one of the most plain/simple ball fields I've ever seen. Stadium not very large. You have to walk around behind stadium to use bathroom facilities. Concessions OK, nothing special - cheap hot dogs. Small souvenir store. No cup holders in or around seats. Lots of activities/entertainment for kids. Not enough music or rallying of fans. Again if you live in the area go try it out and bring the kids.

Great service and a great experience. Only advice, down load app and buy tickets in advance. As with all movie theaters walking up and buying tickets is a thing of the past.

Chicago Ridge Mall

Chicago Ridge Mall offers great shopping near Chicago at over 130 stores. In the mall and nearby Commons Shopping Center are restaurants and an AMC movie theater. Find Khol's department store, Bed Bath & Beyond and other stores in the mall, just east of I-294 at 95th St.

I once loved this mall because it had beautiful plants and fountains. Since they have low quality merchants, it is far from desirable. Yankee Candle and KB Toys are the only decent stores. Otherwise, find another mall if you want a decent variety.

Swallow Cliff Stairs

Reviewed By carole c - Groton, Connecticut

Built in 1930 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the 125 limestone stairs brings one to the 800 acre preserve full of trails, waters and wildlife. Be sure to pause near the railing at the top to view Chicago's skyline. The Boy Scouts installed a ring "counting" system for those that want to track their rd trip jaunts on the stairs. My daughter told me that some still prefer the stacking of stones on the ledge for their count. A concession bldg. on the ground level offers food, beverages as well as a warming area and restrooms. The phone number for the concessions is 800-870-3666; it appears to be seasonal. The stairs are not wheelchair accessible. Considerable parking but beware this tends to be a very popular attraction.

Bengtson's Pumpkin Farm

Bengtson Pumpkin Farm is the premier fall festival and Pumpkin Patch in the Chicagoland area. Established in 1980 the Bengtson family was selling their pumpkin crop to the public from the family farm. Over the past 37 years the farm has come to include one of a kind attractions that have families returning year after year. Our farm has food options that are most easily described as award winning, not your typical festival food. Unlike many other farms and festivals these days Bengtson's admission includes unlimited access to all the rides and activities. One low price for an entire day of fun. There are many options when it comes to pumpkin patches but Bengtson's is the only choice. Our farm is the highest rated and most reviewed farm you will find. The largest corn box play area anywhere, the all new Cow Spin Coaster, all paved walkways so even the newest members of the family can enjoy the farm from the stroller. Bengtson Pumpkin Farm is an experience like no other.

This place is one stop if you have children and need pumpkins. They had carnival rides, food, music, hayrides, even pig races. My grandson loved this corn pit, its like a big sandbox only filling with corn kernels. He was doing cannonballs and snow angels. They could use more changing stations for babies, but it’s all outside so just wing it. On the way out we got some donuts, pumpkins and kettle corn. Fun for the whole family. Weekend are crowded, just a FYI.
