My husband, a friend and I went to Blue Hole Regional Park in February. We were very pleasantly surprised at the 126-acre park along Cypress Creek. It has about 3.5 miles of hiking trails, picnic areas, a community pavilion, playscape, basketball court, sand volleyball court, amphitheater, and the Blue Hole Swimming Area. The swimming area was beautiful. Swimming is allowed during summer months and there is a fee during the summer. Be aware they might start a reservation system this year to keep the crowds down. Go to CityOfWimberley web site for more information (cost & rules). We will be back for sure.

We are closed to swimming until May 2018, but open each day for viewing the artesian spring and hiking is available on our 3 miles of trails on the 81 acre property. There is no fee or reservation required in the off season. Please swing by the nature center to pick up a park map when you arrive.
My husband, a friend and I went to Jacob's Well Natural Area in February. Jacob's Well consist of an artesian spring & underwater caves. Several lives have been lost to people attempting to scuba dive into the caves without proper safety measures. Jacob's Well is the second largest fully submerged cave in Texas. We hiked the 3 miles of trails and view the well for free because there is no fee or reservation required in the off season. During the summer, the adult entry fee is $9, Hays County adults $5, kids $5, kids under 5 free, seniors 60+ $5, veterans/military $5. The trails around the well are especially interesting (climbing on the rocks and across the creek). The well is a 5 minute walk from the closest parking lot. Be careful walking above the well if the rocks are wet. The rocks are very smooth and you could fall about 15 feet and land on other rocks or in the water. Swim season starts May 21 this year (2018). They are open 8 am to 6 pm daily. Truly, a wonder of nature. We will be back.

The interesting named Devil’s Backbone is a short beautiful stretch of twisting highway running a loop between historic old town Wimberley around Canyon Lake to Blanco. The Texas hill country road provides visiting travellers fantastic views from its steep elevations and gives a sense of the old wild west. The road is reported to be haunted with many sightings of native Americans, ranchers and even confederate soldiers. There are stopping points along the route with tabled bench seated picnic areas but beware of any ghostly figures sitting down beside you!

20+ Year old olive orchard that presses fresh oil each year in the Fall. Also home to a small artisan vineyard. Tasting room offers olive oils, balsamic and wine tasting.
My husband and I visited Bella Vista Ranch, at the completion of a 3-day Italian Cooking School at the Blair House Inn. The ranch, designated as a traditional Mediterranean family farm was the first commercially producing olive orchard in Texas. On our guided tour, conducted by owner, Jack Dougherty, we learned about the history of olive trees and oil oil throughout the world, California, and Texas. We walked among some of the 1,200 olive trees, and visited the "frantoio" olive mill and tasting room. Although we did not visit it today, Bella Vista Cellars is a winery also located on the ranch!

We attended our first Market Days in March. We were amazed at:
-- the number of people there;
-- the number of vendors;
-- the wide range of goods offered.
We ended up buying two mesquite tables and having a good time. There's plenty of food available. We had a great Frito pie. There's live music and adult beverages.
While a lot of the items for sale are "garage sale" quality, there are many unique high quality products.
Market Days is a fun way to spend a Saturday morning. Parking is $5 or so, and admission to the event is free.

Of the list of things that make Wimberley TX a unique place the Corral Theater is near the top. Bring your own preferred refreshments (wine and beer) and get yourself a big bunch of popcorn and watch a first run movie in a theater whose ceiling is filled with real stars. You're not in Houston anymore.

See a show under the stars on our Main Stage Theatre. Stroll through our gardens. Play on the life-sized chess/checker board or in the Musical Garden. Have a picnic or visit the hilltop Veterans Memorial Plaza. We offer productions, classes, camps, and events year round and our grounds are open daily from dawn to dusk. Admission to grounds is free. Tickets are available for purchase for performances.
EmilyAnn has a free Christmas lights trail that is well worth seeing. It has a number of themed stops along the trail, photo opportunities, and other activities for kids. There was also a free book tent which was a nice touch. At the end of the trail there was hot chocolate and marshmallows to toast over a fire. All around a great activity for families over the holidays.

We met Jack Glover and was amazed by his museum. Lots of stuff to look at, and some of the things were well over one hundred years old. Jack was great to talk to, that man has lived a real good life!

We loved climbing Old Baldy-it was so worth the quick trek and the views are spectacular! Our kids are 10, 13 and 20 (autistic) years old and we had such a grand family experience together...even in the Texas heat! Go climb this mountain! Go!

Attended a late December wedding at the Red Corral Ranch near Wimberley, TX. The ceremony was outdoors with the temp in the low 50s. Only the bridesmaids and the parson looked really cold. Fortunately, before the ceremony began a large room next to the outdoor chapel (probably for weddings in inclement weather) was open with hot cider offered, so everyone stayed warm until time for the ceremony to begin. The ceremony itself was beautiful. Aren't all weddings? Had a few peacocks roaming the grounds to add some color. The entire grounds were well landscaped (even in winter) with live oaks and other hardy plants.
The reception/dinner was in the big red barn up the hill from the outdoor chapel. Don't try to walk it, too far and too steep. There is plenty of parking both at the ceremony site and up at the reception barn. The bbq with all the trimmings was great. Red Corral doesn’t cater the meal, but has a long list of recommended-by-brides, etc. vendors. Not sure which vendor did the catering, but as mentioned above, the food was great.
