Our love of the quirky, cute and offbeat as well as the downright tasteful gave rise to May's Parlour. A small and friendly card, gift and homeware shop on the edge of the Peak District. We look forward to welcoming you soon
I’m a regular visitor to Mays Parlour which is full of interesting gems, THE place for birthday gifts, treats for yourself and unusual quirky cards, a wonderful friendly atmosphere and the most danceable playlist in town to hum along to as you browse. Great variety and regular turnover.

Bucgsworth Basin! This has to be one of Chinley leading people's attractions. Visiting there/it earlier in this Covid year of 2020 with my faithful fox (terriier) Sharon for a walk, we didn't know what to do first such were the choices arraigned before us like a Smorgasbored before us. Should we visit the museum (in the shipping container near the toilets)? Should we buy a local history book about canals from the Information Shop? (near the museum/toilets) Should we eat our sandwiches (me) and dogs treats (Sharon) on a bench (also, conveniently, near the toilets)? Should we be shouted at by an angry looking little Italian man who seems to thinks he runs the place!!? Well you can guess that's what happened, "You can't park that thing here" being the first thing that was said to me on this much anticipated visit to the The Buggswort Basin, our first day out after the Lockdown which saw a flare-up of my old condition, and which this incident made worse. He was talking about Colin's Fiat ButtyBox which I had borrowed. We nonetheless enjoyed the visit, and I took Sharon to the old pub there called The Compass(?) where the animated barman regaled us with tales and local lore of the area before serving us a fabulous game and mutton pie and though it was light on game and heavy on mutton it went down well. I would heartily recommend a visit to Bunsworth Basin. Careful though if you're short on time, there's much to do here, and the charismatic staff at The Compass will keep you chatting til sundown!

Regular 3 mile walk around the reservoir with my dog. Popular spot with ample parking. Glorious at any time of the year. Can be very muddy in the woodland section.
I have been interested in Alpacas for many years, I have also persuaded my partner Paul to fall in love with them also. When we recently moved to our farm, we bought our first three boys to start our own herd. We would like to share our love for these quirky and interesting animals with others and share the pleasure of spending time in their company.
