Being from the Finger Lakes Wine Country Katie did an excellent pouring experience for us as drop in’s on one of the busiest weekends of their season. The wine is on the spot for the palette for an honest estate winery. I enjoyed the reds and my wife enjoyed the whites and Port. . When in the Lake Erie Trail, this is The stop. Ask for Katie in the weekends.

Located on US Route 20 in Portland, NY between Westfield and Brocton, this new winery was built among grape vineyards and cherry orchards which provides a beautiful backdrop to enjoy a glass of finely-crafted wine. The winery, which opened in September 2011 has a wide variety of wines to choose from including dry, semi-sweet and sweet wines - something for everyone's palette.
We stopped at 21 Brix to taste some wine. There is a small fee of 3 wines for $1. The server was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the different wines. She made the wine tasting fun. Our favorites were Marquis, Ella's White and Thirsty...MoreHi! Thanks for the great review of our winery, 21 Brix. We're so glad you stopped and enjoyed the wine tasting, slushies in addition to our spacious outdoor seating with a view of the vineyard and cherry orchard. Hope to see you back here soon!

UNFORTUNATELY, The Grape Discovery Center was CLOSED when we paid a visit on Wednesday, October the 4th 2017. Nonetheless, I did a photo shoot of the exterior of the center and surrounding exterior features in order to enhance this Trip Advisor attraction listing. Several other visitors also arrived expecting the center to be open. From the exterior, it is a most attractive place. Right next to a large vineyard it is in a very nice setting with an outdoor area for visitors to sit and enjoy the center weather permitting. Looking through the windows the gift shop looked to be excellent.

The First Natural Gas Lighthouse. Finished in 1829, the 40-foot tall Barcelona Lighthouse (Portland Harbor) was the very first natural gas lighthouse in the country. It was in Federal Lighthouse Service until 1859. At that time it became privately held through various owners until 2008, when New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation acquired it. Though it no longer has the original lens, nor is used for navigational purposes, it is still lit and visible today through an agreement with the Town of Westfield. The lighthouse is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historical Places. The Keeper's cottage is open in a joint partnership with the Town of Westfield Visitor Center and a seasonal weekend docent with NYS Parks. The lighthouse itself is not open to public ascent due to structural issues at this time.
I love this section of Route 5 from North East Pa to Dunkirk NY it's a nice easy relaxing drive along the Lake Erie Shoreline. While driving you will come to Barcelona Harbor where you can pull in and check out the harbor overlooking the harbor is the lighthouse. This area is very scenic great for sightseeing You can take this way instead of the New York Thruway I90 check it out.

The owner, Gail, is a wonderful, warm and gracious woman! She was so proud of her products and offered us samples of her delicious fruit syrups. She has a wonderful sense of humor and her outlook on life is heart-warming! She wrote her memoir which is for sale in the store. Her story of courage and perseverance is remarkable. This isn't just a shop, this is an event not to be missed.

The museum opened its doors in 1951 in Chautauqua County's first brick mansion. The house was built in 1818 by pioneer James McClurg, the wealthy son of a Pittsburgh industrialist. Its grand salons and formal rooms stood in sharp contrast to the rugged homes of neighboring frontier settlers. The house was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. Today the 24-room Federal-style mansion is the home of the Chautauqua County Historical Society. The museum features period displays on three floors. Displays include some of the earliest artifacts and archival materials relating to the settlement and development of the county. The society's collections feature fine art, antique furnishings, textiles, mastodon bones, a First Nations exhibit and much, much more. Guided tours and group rates are available.
We were welcomed to the museum by Saundra Brown and an intern. Ms. Brown gave us a wonderful 70 minute tour of the home - telling us about all its residents and the history of the area. It was informative and fun and very engaging.

Proudly Introducing New York State's First Winery, Brewery & Distillery Mazza, a name long-known in the local wine world, is proud to introduce our new location, featuring Mazza Chautauqua Cellars wines, an expanded distillery and our new craft-distilling brand, Five & 20 Spirits. We welcome visitors to taste from our selection of fine wines, small-batch distilled products and craft beers as they peer out onto 80 acres of surrounding farm-land, which is home to grains used for spirit (and beer) production. Wine and beer available by the glass.
We were excited to stop here because we live exploring breweries and thought we might find the spirits interesting as well. Found it to be kind of confusing when we first walked in although we eventually read the info and figured it out. Prices seemed high and sample sizes super small. We ended up buying 12 Oz beers from the Tier One options. We had to wait a bit for service but the server was friendly once she finally to us. We took our beers outside to relax in the patio and check out the food menu. The menu was written on a chalk board. but there were no prices. We asked how much the things on the board were but we were told "tell us what you want and we'll let you know ". Ok. How about chips with salsa and guacamole? $13. Um, no, especially since we some at another table- a paper plate of chips and little containers of salsa and guacamole. So, we came, we tried it, but we won't be back. In fairness, other people seemed to be enjoying it, so maybe it was just us but everything seemed like too much money for little food/drink.

The Patterson Library opened its doors on August 1, 1908. More than 100 years later, the building has maintained its grand architecture while providing 21st century opportunities for the community of Westfield. Also in the building, an art gallery, historic exhibits and archives, free wifi, DVD's and more!
The Patterson Library is the crown jewel of Westfield, New York! It is an amazing entity for a village the size of Westfield. It provides the surrounding area with a wealth of books on every topic as well as offers in depth computer access and printing to the public. Records from the area go back for years and the staff is always ready to help you find what you are looking for. Above and beyond that, the building itself is exquisite! The funding donated by the George Patterson Family in the 1800's, the building is quality architecture of the period and remain a focal point of the village. In addition the Octagon Art Gallery and children' library were added in a building program a number of years back. The library offers numerous classes, plays, programs, etc. to the community and surrounding area. Visit if you have a chance!

When you can catch this place open, it can be recently interesting. Quite mixed bag with quality or lack there of.
I have bought several things over the years here. I go back but it's not the highlight of my antiquing.
The owner is always been very friendly and I can't complain about the service. I'm perplexed why another reviewer had slammed them.
Best time to visit us when they have the Westfield antique show. The antique show right around the block is extremely good.
