Georges Road Wines is a picturesque winery and vineyard in Waipara, New Zealand, only 45 minutes north of Christchurch. Visit the winery and tasting room, taste the wines with the winemaker and look around the vineyard. Or stay in the WinePod, our beautiful boutique romantic getaway, set privately in the vineyard, with amazing views and hot tub too.
Wonderful spot with a great view out to the inland Waipara Hills. Fantastic wine and brilliant personalized, unpretentious explanations from vinter Kirk and Alison. We stayed at The Wine Pod which is a fantastic tiny house with a great cedar outdoor hot-tub. 5 ⭐️

The wines of The Bone Line are simply amazing. The SharkStone Chardonnay is the best Chardonnay that I have tasted in New Zealand, and the Rieslings are beautifully crafted. The tasting was conducted in a friendly and informative way. Totally recommend to stop by.

Stopped here for lunch and so glad we did. Great service and great setting. The white wine platter was very good especially the salmon terrine and the pâté. Great Chardonnay too! Hope to return.

A family run winery in Waipara, about 1 hour North of Christchurch. Kim and Maggie Rainer produce wonderful wines, particularly Pinot Noir, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc, for you to sample and offer very nice light meals to accompany them. Their premium "Omihi Road" range is outstanding.

Only 50 min from central Christchurch, the Weka Pass Railway is a historic rural railway using both vintage steam and diesel-electric locomotives out of Waipara, North Canterbury. Take a train ride on one of the public operating days on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month, most Sundays in January and most public holidays. Perfect for a break on a trip to Hanmer Springs, Kaikora or while visiting the Waipara wine region. Trains will usually be hauled by 1909 built "A" Class "Pacific" steam locomotive number 428. During exceptional fire risk in summer months, "A428" may be replaced with a vintage diesel locomotive. For the latest details on operating days please visit the Weka Pass Railway website.

It might be a long dusty track out to Lake Taylor but it’s well worth it. The lake is packed full of trout and there is a small Doc campsite there, basic but pleasant. If you don’t mind some seriously pot holes roaring you can cycle from Lake Taylor all the way to Loch Katrine. If you don’t want to go the whole way then grab a picnic and a camera and just enjoy the day. Remember it is farm land so keep the gates closed be hind you and be respectful.

Recently described by Decanter Magazine as one of New Zealand’s top wine producers, Greystone vineyard is situated in the Waipara Valley, an hour north of Christchurch. Greystone is 100% certified organic and believes true fine wines are temporal, each vintage a fleeting snapshot of a place in time. Greystone talks proudly about their vineyard and terroir, but the best way to experience it is first-hand. Greystone has a range of wines open for tasting at their Cellar Door. Local Forager Mel Wright provides a delightful pre-set Long Lunch consisting of four courses and paired with sample wines to enhance the experience. Lunch is priced at $79 per person. You can extend your visit with private Wine Tour: a unique, immersive and educational wine experience deep-diving in the wonderful world of winemaking.

On State Highway 1, set amongst the vines is the iconic stone building that is home to Waipara Hills. Here you'll discover an operating winery, cellar door and seasonal cafe. Just 45 minutes drive north of Christchurch.
We had a tasting plate with assorted things to eat - pulled pork, lamb, beef balls, prawns... if you don’t know what to choose, this is a great option! Wine is delicious, and staff were friendly and helpful. Venue is gorgeous. Highly recommended!
