the grosse basilika is an impressive piece of landscape architecture in Austria close to the boarder with the Czech Republic. Impressive large stones form the monument. When you stand on top of the table you see the complete structure. The location is on the right side of road number 5 (Waidhofener strasse) north of Waidhofen an der Thaye in the south east direction of Waidhofen. The entrance to the location is somewhat hidden. We visited this place in August 2014 and it was really worth a detour.
When in the Waldviertel, as this area is called, don't miss the Himmelsleiter.

There are three guided tours per day which present the development of the plant which started out lowly but now produces a variety of soft cheeses from cow, sheep and goat milk including preparations with vegetables and fruit. There is also a shop and restaurant, both set in a picturesque location. offers

View - Comprehend - Appreciate - An experience for the whole family Welcome at the UnterWasserReich, the visitor center of the Nature Park Hochmoor Schrems, in the middle of the fascinating landscape of the Waldviertel's ponds and bogs. You will experience the topic of the Waldviertler wetlands by an indoor exhibition and by the outside water-garden including our European otter compound. The Nature Park Hochmoor Schrems offers the opportunity to enjoy the charm of the Waldviertel high bog. The 20 m high Himmelsleiter allows a breathtaking view over the park and the hidden romantically sparkling water area of the former peat-cutting site. Finally enjoy yourself in the "Cafe UnterWasserReich" with coffee specialities, desserts and delicacies. In the shop you will find a wide range of local products from the Waldviertel. Shop, cafe, kid's corner as well as the Terrace and our adventure playground are accessible during opening hours!
This place on the moor with a fine presentation of the underwater world is quite fascinating. We loved sitting in the outdoor part in deckchairs and watching children on the tugboats or on the labyrint-like wooden 'paths on water' as well as the little 'lakes'...MoreDear Marie, thank you very much for your very good review on TripAdvisor! We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us! We are looking forward to your next visit! Best regards! Christiane Mader

Booked a half hour 4WD tour on their playground for men (and women). Great tour with steep hills and water. Friendly guide with lots of experience. Will come again (instead of 4WD with Pajero it will be with the Hummer... or a quad tour).

What a fun magical place to visit. The small village situated along the former Iron Curtain border exudes hope and optimism. Spend an hour or so and try your hand at creating your own masterpiece. Or failing that, just enjoy the moment. The ceramics are just so colorful and cheery that you can't help but smile. Bring home a souvenir that you'll treasure for years.

A visit to Hrad Landstejn is a trip back to the 13th Century. Interesting history and the ruins are rather impressive. The climb to the top is rewarding with views as far as the Austrian border. The historical drawings and period information is quite interesting and adds to the experience.

Reconstructed, surprisingly nice exhibition of car veterans, from Ford 1912 to 70-80's big America cars - Mustang, Dodge, Oldsmobile, Chevrolet. Also one exclusive L'Orean.
There are illustration projections about Ford model T production, old car advertisements. For technical or car addicted man (woman) this is a must see.

When we came to the entrance of the castle there was only a small message sign at the door that we would have to wait for 10 minutes. After more than half an hour waiting and repeated ringing the bell we left. It's really not customer friendly to give no sign at all. After having driven up to here for more than 120km we really were very upset.
