The shark tooth capital of the world, Venice, Florida, is known for its spectacular shoreline. Stroll down Venice Avenue with its pink, Italian Renaissance buildings, Mediterranean-style shops and "umbrella-topped" Canary Island date palms.

My wife and I purchased last minute tickets while visiting a friend in the area. This was our second visit to this theater and Smokey Joe’s Café did not disappoint. This show is not a musical in the conventional sense of actor dialog interspersed with...MoreThanks for the wonderful review. We're so glad you enjoyed Smokey Joe's Cafe!

We went up, from N. Ft. Myers to check out the surfing, we where presently surprised with the amenities and wonderful beach. It was fun to watch the boats go in and out through the jetty. We took a nice long walk down the beach. It was chilly and windy but we still had a good time.
The food at the concession stand was good and reasonably priced. The bathrooms are nice and clean also.
If you want to rent kayaks, paddle boards or surf boards you can from Jetty Rental.

Jetties at the tip of this key make this an exciting beach for surfing.
The North Jetty Park is a great beach park....lots of free parking, concessions, great place to fish & great beach too! The entire island is awesome & definitely a place to visit! The only downside- low speed limit & traffic

Our dog had a blast! This was her first time on a beach. She loved it. Nice size beach, a few other dogs were there. Everyone seemed to take good care. Not a lot of parking. Will definitely go back when were in the area.

We wanted to see an orange grove while vacationing in the area, and friends recommended the nearby Nokomis Groves. Indeed, there are a few dozen orange trees next to the parking lot, but half of them look diseased. The major production grove must be elsewhere.
We must have visited at the end of their growing season, because the sign on the door of the fruit store said that they will close at the end of the week - the store looked pretty bare of fruit and the orange juice refrigeration unit was empty.
They do offer some incredibly good fruit soft serve ice cream, but it is pricey. I had the orange, and my wife had the orange-vanilla swirl. A small cup is over $4.
There was only one person in line in front of us when we arrived, but when we left the line had over a dozen people in it, so I suspect that the line can get long.

Venice Fishing Pier, 1600 Harbor Dr. S., Venice Island, FL 34285. OPEN DAILY. Fishing License is NOT Required. The Venice Fishing Pier is located at Brohard Park on the south end of the island of Venice, and is owned by the City of Venice. The 700-foot Pier is a great location for fishing and to end the day watching a beautiful sunset. Connected to Sharky's on the Pier, the only beachfront restaurant in the Venice area, the Pier offers Papa's Bait Shop, with live & frozen bait, coffee, treats, jackets, shirts, and more. Nearby are six picnic shelters, two sand volleyball courts, and public restrooms with showers. Open at all times. There is no fee to access the Pier and avid and amateur fisherman of all ages can fish from the Pier without a fishing license.
These sorts of locations are naturally dependent on the weather, and with a cold March this year, this rather windy spot was not at its greatest. The views are good though, with the ocean opening up to one direction, and the city of Los Angeles to the other. The fresh air is a bonus as well, and you can get a break from the busy beach strip.

Went here to help a friend find sharks teeth but because EVERYONE was looking for sharks teeth we decided to do some shell collecting. Great place for getting shells. Go at low tide tho as when tide is high there are rocks you can not see and there's not much beach. Great picnic areas . Then a lovely walk around the path by the intercoastal waterway. It's beautiful. Never saw a piece of trash on the ground and the bathrooms were immaculate. This is a must see in Venice..Family adventure..Something for everyone. Free parking ..Free enterence ..Free shelling..And beautiful warm gulf water or just sit and people watch.

We discovered The Legacy Trail on one of our trips to Casey Key. We actually bike the three miles from Casey Key to the entrance at Laurel Road. Crossing 41 is a challenge but there is a light for pedestrians and that means we do not have to rack our bikes and drive. Since I live in Virginia and bike everyday near mountains, I personally love that it is flat. We can bike thirty miles with ease. We go in early February, so it is not terribly hot. Even as bikers we have to be careful of the serious bikers who go fast. It is also really important to give the walkers notice when you are passing. It is heavily used by all types of folks but we love it. Spend more time there than we do at the beach!

Detwiler's Farm Market is a family owned and operated grocery store with 3 locations in the Sarasota area. We provide fresh produce, seafood, meats, deli meats & cheeses, baked goods & an ice cream shop! One visit and you'll be hooked. We have the best deals in town.
This is a normal farmers/produce/Amish market - very similar to what we have in Maryland. The produce is about the same price as you would find in the grocery store. It does have meats, cheese, groceries, bakery goods, and food to purchase like lobster rolls and soup. I just like our Amish market in Maryland better.

Venice beach, especially from the area around Venice Blvd provides a great beach experience with the ability to walk to the jetty or, if you are heartier, to the fishing pier. This gives your family a few more distractions than just open sand/water. The water in this area is gradual, allowing you to safely walk out and wade.
