Vashon is a census-designated place (CDP) in King County, Washington, United States. It covers an island alternately called Vashon Island or Vashon-Maury Island, the largest island in Puget Sound south of Admiralty Inlet. The population was 10,624 at the 2010 census and the size is 37 square miles (96 km). There are no bridges to connect the island with the mainland, and this contributes to the island's relative isolation and rural character.

Stayed on Vashon Island for 2 nights, boat trip is very good and reasonably priced. The Island it self is beautiful, people very friendly with a wide range of choice for eating and drinking. Lovely gift shops and amazing ice cream. Really glad we visited.

I appreciate the volunteers all across America who help keep these small, quaint lighthouses open to the public and who share the history so that it doesn't get lost to time. Captain Joe is one such individual. A retired Coastie, he patiently take the time to open up the lighthouse on Sunday afternoons and will take the time to show you around, tell you some stories and answer your questions. Kudos also to the volunteer in the Ship's Store Gift Shop who showed us around and told us more stories. These personal touches made our visit much more than a hike to take a few pictures.

Since moving to the island five years ago, my husband and I have belonged to the wine club. Of course, we can't always wait for our next delivery, so in the interim, we purchase more. We always have bottles of Palouse reds on hand.
We've been to several winemaker dinners that are held inside at Palouse Winery. The menus are creative and they always offer a vegetarian option of which I take advantage. The owners, George and Linda, are as warm and welcoming as the come.
Two summers ago, we held my mother-in-law's 90th birthday party on the enchanting outside patio. The chef prepared the entire multi-course dinner meal on-site, we hired a string quartet, and many attendees tried the wine for the first time. Our friends and family still talk about that lovely day.

1/2 acre certified organic lavender farm with views of Mt. Rainier and harbor on charming Vashon Island. Open seasonally late June through July when lavender is blooming. 20 varieties. Farm store with soap, bath and beauty products, organic essential oil. 1920's farmhouse is also a vacation rental when owners are not in residence, on VRBO and Airbnb. Open mid-June through late July 11 am - 5 pm for U-Cut. Farm store open Friday, Saturday and Sunday 11 am - 5 pm.
Would be helpful if their website and FB page said they were closed before you drive there.. Although I knew Lavendar harvesting season was over, I thought I could look at lavendar products that might be fun...unfortunately just a sign at driveway that said "closed for season"

If you're trying to get to Vashon from Seattle you have the choice of the Water Taxi from downtown which has limited hours or the Fauntleroy ferry. If you're using the ferry on a summer or holiday weekend give yourself extra time as waits can get up to 90 minutes or more.
The ferry itself has food and beer and wine, though the ride is only 15 minutes. I suggest just sitting back and enjoying the view.
If you don't have a car you'll want to take a bus so make sure to check the bus schedules to see if they sink with your ferry.

We had the pleasure and honor of seeing this truly wondrous sight in person during a visit to our cousins on Vashon Island. It is off the highway behind a restaurant and has nothing to mark its being there, it just is. We all wondered just how did that bicycle end up part way up the tree growing out of its thick trunk. When we got home, we were thrilled to see a book all about the Bicycle Tree at our local bookstore. It's called "Red Ranger Came Calling" by Berkeley Breathed and it explains the author's version of how the bicycle got there. To see The Bicycle Tree is to believe in magic!

Jim & Cheryl make some amazing adult beverages, perry (made from Asian pears) and ciders. All made on site. Generally get a great tour of the orchards and process.

Handmade, small batch, grain-to-glass spirits. America's 17 Best Craft Distilleries (Thrillist), Best in Western WA 2015 & 2014 (Evening Magazine). We are a small-batch craft distillery on Vashon Island, just west of Seattle, Washington in the beautiful Puget Sound. We make our spirits from scratch, by hand, using the very best local ingredients. We think you can taste the difference. We were thrilled to be voted King 5 Evening Magazine Western Washington's Best Spirits/Distillery in 2014. We make an Old World style Vodka, an herbaceous Northwest Gin, a single-malt, Irish style Whiskey, and a rich, coffee-forward Coffee Liqueur. Seattle Distilling Vodka was awarded a silver medal in 2014 from the American Distilling Institute. Seattle Distilling Gin was named Washington's Best Gin at Seattle Gin Society's Ginvitational 2014, and our Seattle Distilling Coffee Liqueur won Gold at 2014 Great American Distiller's Festival.
Seattle Distilling is a tiny place producing a huge product. Or products! A recent visit to the distillery, located on picturesque Vashon Island shows you don't need a huge space to create amazing spirits. We arrived at opening time - 12pm - and were greeted...MoreSo grateful for the nice review! Glad you enjoyed your visit. Please come again!
