The Cappadocia region's most upscale and contemporary tourist city, Urgup has a number of lovely hotels, many built in and around centuries-old cave dwellings. The city and its surrounding area are known for their mysterious fairy chimneys, early Christian rock churches and fine vineyards. A mix of ancient and modern, Urgup is a center for traditional handmade carpets, but also has a lively nightlife. Hot air ballooning is very popular, and a fantastic way to see the area's beauty from above.

This is brilliant. Spend about 45 minutes walk around and take great pictures. It was an unbelievable landscape. Beautiful and breathtaking.

Beautiful and amazing sight to behold! We will definitely be back with our family. We spoke to many of the young kids who were there on an excursion and they had so much info and fun insights on Turkish culture.

Mazi is one of many underground cities In cappadocia but this one specially could be acceptable for people who has Claustrophobia because of the high ceiling. Only few stories open for public and amazing lighting inside the cave.

We hired a car on our week in Cappadocia and were on our way back to Urgup from the Soganli valley (great place) when we saw the sign for the monastery and decided to stop. It’s quite close to Urgup, I would say about 10km. The guide explained that this is a 13th century monastery which originally had a Greek Orthodox Church in it and later on another church was added. The site is quite neat and you have access to spectacular valley views, inside the main church there are numerous frescoes which the guide talks through and explains, it says no photos but I snapped away and the guide did not tell me off...it costs 10tl per person, all good for a bit of history and rest stop on a long drive.

Best Cappadocian red wine. We tried Seneler Öküzgözü & Boğazkere first at a restaurant so we went to the winery and got 2 bottles for 90 TL each. Normally red wine turns my cheeks red and sometimes I have a slight headache, this is the only red wine that doesn't do so. Perfect flavours and great quality. Highly recommended!
