The most developed area of Grand Canyon National Park, the South Rim offers amenities such as bus service, hotels and water stations, but is also more crowded than the North Rim. Scenic highlights include Pipe Creek Vista and Yavapai Point.
Take your patience. We were there last week during our area school's spring break. the place was packed. The roads are under construction and some of the hotels are closed for renovation. We had a room at the Maswik Lodge which was convenient . We took a free shuttle bus from our hotel and got off by the visitor center. Then we walked about 3 miles back (downhill) toward our hotel. We stopped for awhile and listened to a ranger talk about how the canyon was formed. We stopped at the Geology Museum at Yavapai Point. Small but interesting. Part of the rim trail is called the trail of time. It has information about the geological history and different rocks and markers along the way. The National Park Fee is $30 but will probably soon be going up. If you are a senior and plan to visit more parks get the senior pass. If you have brought your lunch there are picnic tables along the way. Fantastic views of a great wonder.

The Grand Canyon is one of the most popular vacation destinations in the world. With its incredible scenery and inspirational beauty, the vast number of visitors keeps growing. With a number of ways to see the canyon, some may choose to drive, hike, bike or ride a mule. One adventure that awaits is the sky—a Maverick Helicopters®' tour from the Grand Canyon's South Rim or the Grand Canyon West Rim.
We did the 45 minute tour around the Canyon and it was amazing. Chris was our Pilot and he was ver knowledgeable, pointed out specific landmarks and gave us wonderful historical and scientific background. My kids loved it and will be something we all remember! We had the 10:00 tour in the morning and it was perfect timing.

One of the two superhighways into the Canyon, the other being the Bright Angel Trail, this path runs along a ridge offering stunning views. During the summer, visitors are advised to bring at least two quarts of water along because it can get very hot and the trail offers no shade.
Everything about the canyon is amazing. It’s too hard to describe. It is a trip you must do. Any photos you ever see, even Professional ones will never do it justice.

The Grand Canyon's original jeep tour company - since 1993. Guided off-road tours of the Kaibab National Forest & Grand Canyon. Seven tours to choose from including Indian Rock Art Tours.
Our guide, Colleen, was absolutely fantastic! She blended history, native culture, geology, and personal stories with the natural beauty of one of the 7 wonders of the world. As a first encounter of the Grand Canyon for my family I could not have dreamed of a better experience. Absolutely worth every penny. One recommendation, be sure to dress for the weather, the vehicle is an open-air Jeep. They do provide blankets, but having layers to keep warm or cool helps.

Andrew, our tour guide, came onto our Adventures by Disney tour bus. He came with a wealth of information delivered in a fun manner that involved both kids and adults. His passion and love for the area, the history and the environment was appreciated. He brought along several visuals which we all enjoyed. The DUDE explanation of the geographical sights was memorable. Loved having Andrew on our bus tour!

Scenic and level walking trail, which is easy enough to bring the kids.

Grand Canyon Airlines is the world's oldest, most experienced air tour company in continuous operation since 1927. Proudly owned since 1967 by Elling Halvorson, who has been credited with truly developing and shaping the Grand Canyon air tours industry.
I read the negative reviews that call this company and tour a scam...it's not. I read reviews that said the toll free number leads to a call centre. When you call a hotel to book a room - you also read a call centre. Not sure what he big deal is. I booked a package over the phone with no problem - the tour was excellent and very informative. It's a great way to see thr Grand Canyon.

One of the two superhighways of the Grand Canyon, this well maintained and popular trail offers breathtaking vistas, some shaded areas, plus a number of rest stops that have drinking water.
This is an amazing experience, but it is a difficult trail if you are not an experienced hiker. If you are a novice, do not go past the first 1.5 mile marker. The climb back up is strenuous.

Hermit’s Trail is a fine way to explore the South Rim. The tram will pick you up if you become tired. Any reason to explore the Grand Canyon is great. The Bright Angel Trail is more tiring and requires endurance. The Hermit Trail requires less endurance.
Carry water and remain hydrated.
