Spectacular views on this hike. Mostly paved. Right along the rim of the canyon. Go 1st thing in the morning (by 7:30AM to miss the crowds.)

Ignore the negative reviews that people are leaving for this experience. It is amazing to think of why they would put negative reviews - this is a National Geographic production about the Grand Canyon that includes some history on the canyon and a lot about Powell, the Civil War veteran amputee that explored the Colorado River (and even has Powell Point named after him). The video also provides aspects both aerial and from the river that are viewpoints that most tourists will not be able to experience (since if you visit a point you are merely viewing down into the canyon). For those who complain - what did you expect for $10, some kind of Hollywood 2-hour blockbuster show? Just relax and LEARN SOMETHING from this video.

The wranglers were very knowledgeable about the area and happy to talk to the riders. The horses seemed well cared for and the one that I rode, Muskrat, was very responsive to my direction. I'm a lifelong rider, so I was "chomping at the bit" to go at a brisker pace, but even at the slow walk the area was beautiful. And the walk back into town afterwards was equally as lovely!

Stayed in Tusayan, AZ to visit the Canyon over Memorial Day weekend. Having not been in this area since 1990, I was amazed of how commercialized and tourist over-run the area has become. This visitor center/IMAX seemed like the place to get started as it was just a block walk from our hotel. Our first visit consisted of a 20-30 minute IMAX documentary about the canyon along with a few beverages. The ticket sales agent(Andrew) was polite, friendly and greeted us with a smile. The documentary is interesting as it touches on the history of the Indians who lived in the area, the European explorers who "found" the canyon, and Major John Wesley Powell. This is all stuff you can read on Google, but it was very cool to watch it on IMAX. We returned to the visitor center on our last night in Tusayan for some ice cream and nice conversation with staff member "Morgan" who could be one of the best-natured human beings you could meet. We also had a nice chat with "Marty" who was the assistant director. Having been in Tusayan for 3 days, it was finally nice to speak with somebody who spoke english. The food/beverage/souvenir prices in this visitor are high, but this is a tourist destination, and you'll pay tourist prices. It can be very crowded, and you may feel like a foreigner in your own country. The days we went, the staff was very helpful and were happy to answer questions. I would recommend starting here if this is your first visit to Tusayan for the Grand Canyon. I also suggest taking the bus to the canyon from the visitor center. It's no charge if you have the National Park Pass and avoid the potential aggravation of waiting in traffic if it's on a weekend or holiday.

In the first shopping center you come to after exiting Grand Canyon National Park is the Tusayan General Store. Not only a great grocery store with all you would expect and more, there is a Starbucks adjacent with an entrance in the store. About half of the square footage is souvenirs and clothing, along with travel necessities you may have left home without. The prices are better here than anyplace else in town for souvenirs and t-shirts. Plus any food or supplies you need for your stay or continued travels, this is the place. The service was amazing as well, the gentleman who checked us out took the extra time to really wrap and secure my purchases so nothing would get damaged on the way home. I really appreciated that!
