Set in beautiful grounds and only a short drive from Trois Islet, La Savane des Esclaves is a must visit site. It is one if not the best sites I’ve seen in the Caribbean depicting the history of the island and the slave trade. With plaques clearly written in English and French the site provides a fascinating history of Martinique with a story line that picks upon on key individuals instrumental in the Abolishment of the slave trade and the history of this beautiful Island of Flowers and people. Difficult to leave this site and not think about the peoples of Martinique and the wider Caribbean. Touches the heart and soul of what is to be a Martinican.

This Musee de la Mer was my highlight. For 5 Euros we could explore the shells and It was amazing. He had mostly all of the species of shells and underwater species. I was there for at least two hours. It was so attractive. Every shell, shark, fish was all documented.. Before I left I bought a star fish that was completely black. It was not alive. I will always remember this beautifil Musee de la Mer. I give this 10/10 A must see!

This was fascinating!! Our private guide as well as the museum guide offered many insights to the life of French colonists in Martinique This was the childhood home of Josephine - wife of Napoleon There is a lot of information on that association~ As well there is much interesting botany- and sugar production information & history.
