We had a great visit to the cellar door and winery tour with Jonathan. He was fantastic- knowledgeable and informative - he spent more than 2 hours with the 4 of us. Taking us through the historic property dating back to the early 1800s and vineyard with some of the regions oldest vines. We also enjoyed the wine tasting great wines in the cellar and again Jonathan provided interesting commentary and insights to the wines. We all recommend a visit to Langmeil. Well done Langmeil and thanks Jonathan.

Rusden Wines

Unearth the unexpected... Nestled in the foothills of the eastern Barossa ranges, Rusden is a family owned and operated producer, specialising in handcrafted wines sourced from the vineyards surrounding the Cellar Door. The Rusden name is synonymous with quality and is unique in the way it operates. We are a single vineyard estate in the Vine Vale sub-region of the Barossa. Rusden’s philosophy incorporates the old Independent Vignerons banner of “Traditional Winemakers” where respect for terroir is paramount. We tend and harvest our own vineyards to ensure that traditional viticultural practises are kept alive. We see ourselves very much as custodians of the land, and seek to minimise our environmental “footprint” in everything we do. The Rusden brand is comprised of ten wines; each made using traditional methods, producing small batches of the highest quality wine, indicative of the Vine Vale terroir. Our aim is to make wines that refine the power of Barossa fruit, yet highlight the floral aromatics and spice characters so evident in wines made from grapes grown in Vine Vale’s sandy soil. Join us at our Cellar Door, share in our unique story and “unearth the unexpected”....

My wife and I visited the Rusden cellar door on Sunday and had one of the most memorable experiences of our Barossa trip. The wines are consistently of the highest quality and there is also an option to create your own small platter with some of the local produce they stock. Our host Mali was wonderful and went out of her way to provide us with an insight into each wine. This will be at the top of our list when we return to the Barossa.

Called in here looking for a bottle of white port and found 2 very nice ports. One was a Tawny port and one was a port fronti which is a very pale port which is called white port. Even the wife like this one and she’s not a port drinker, she liked it that much she treated me to 2 bottles of it. The lady serving us couldn’t be more helpful and explained everything we were trying. Outside the views are brilliant but you do have to climb a steep slope to get the best view.

Four boarding school friends get together every couple of years for a "gals' week" in Adelaide where one of us lives. In her local organiser role she chose Pindarie for Tuesday lunch. It was a delicious lunch - the saltbush lamb pie, the chicken pie and the pear/rocket/candied pecan salad were totally delicious. We ate on the verandah and looked out over the hills - peaceful and authentic. The tasting room is a converted stable and fitted out with recycled timbers from the earlier years when the property raised Southdown sheep. In the last 9 years vines have been maturing and we sampled some of their wines. We were made very welcome and wish Pindarie every success.

Charles Melton Wines

Since the first vintage of Charles Melton Wines in 1984, this small Barossa Valley winery has gained both national and international recognition for its fine red table wines. The wines move from a light red, ‘The Rose of Virginia’ through to Australia’s premier Rhone-style red, ‘Nine Popes’. Charlie Melton also makes small quantities of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sparkling Shiraz, and is the only Australian producer of a vin-santo styled dessert wine, Sotto di Ferro. Charlie was one of the first to recognize the value and tradition of the Barossa’s old vineyard Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro. At a time when others were pulling out vineyards of Shiraz to plant more fashionable varieties, Charlie was convincing farmers to keep their historic vineyards. He was one of a small group of winemakers who helped retain the viticultural heritage of the Barossa.
