Calala Cottage was built in 1875 as a Town House for Tamworth's first Mayor. The cottage is furnished with items mainly from the late Victorian period. The Museum Complex includes The Shepherd's Hut which is Tamworth's oldest building as well as the Heritage Award winning Beehive School. Bequests from notable Tamworth families enhance the exhibits.
Had a lovely afternoon with friends visiting this interesting historic house. So many interesting facts conveyed to us through our wonderful tour guides. We thoroughly enjoyed hearing the early settlement of Tamworth and visiting the shepherd's hut, old school and sheds with interesting artifacts. We really appreciated all the time volunteers must put in to keep this 'gem' of a place open. So important to Tamworth's past.

From the moment you walk into this lovely space, you begin the relaxation process with a cup of herbal tea and a foot soak, in your soft white robe. A luxe facial and firm, intuitive massage is just the remedy to restore spirits in these challenging times. Afterwards you sit in the calm space with another cup of tea and local organic chocolate. Worry and stress seemed to fall away with the pampering and positive energy. This was one of the best spa experiences I've had and I can't wait to go back and try everything else on the treatment menu.

Experience the Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre (AELEC), which hosts more than 50 events per year from agility dogs and alpacas to rodeos and show jumping. The AELEC has an indoor arena with tiered seating for 3,360 people, horse sporting fields, two dressage areas and more. Entry fee and opening hours vary depending on events at the venue.
This would be by far the most amazing equine venue I have ever been too short of the Will Rogers in Fort Worth Texas. This venue has everything a horse exhibitor would want.

In 1888, Tamworth became the first city in Australia to be lit by municipal electric street lighting. This important moment in national and local history is preserved at the Tamworth Powerstation Museum. Established in 1988, it is located on the site where the 1888 steam engines powered the street lighting system, and the 1907 Power Station / Municipal Electric Showroom building has been refurbished to display a range of unique exhibits. It is easy to overlook the important role electricity plays in our everyday lives. It has led to numerous developments in technology: from street lights and industrial machinery, to kitchen appliances and hair dryers. Tamworth Powerstation Museum is Australia’s only dedicated electrical museum. We invite you to join with us in exploring the history of electrical innovation.
We were fortunate enough to turn up on the anniversary of the power switching on in Tamworth, so the steam engines were going and the museum was free to enter. Internet wrongly claimed the place wasn't open on a Monday, so glad we decided to drive by to check. We had the privilege of a wonderful volunteer Ron, who gave us a personalised guided tour complete with demonstrations of various scientific proofs. He was a wealth of knowledge (an electrical engineer prior to his retirement) and regaled us with tales of the history of science behind electricity and our use of it. We were so spellbound we only realised at the end of the tour that we had been here 3 hours and the place was literally shut now (we were the only people still there). If I could turn back time, Ron's talk would have inspired me to study physics or engineering. Ah well. Hopefully he will inspire some younger ones to pick it up. Thanks Ron!
