This is the nicest beach I've been to in Japan,The ocean water is crystal clear the beach is golden sand. The beach is about a mile long with a concrete bike path that runs along the beachfront and a campground at its southern end the Hasage islands about 400 meters off shore and you can take a SUP tour with local company 'Seastar' out to the islands to explore. There is a very cool and welcoming atmosphere at Wakasawada where the beach houses (beach shops and restaurants) play reggae music and even live bands on Saturday afternoons. I recommend taking a trip here from Kyoto 2hrs or Osaka 2.5 hours by train (5minute walk from Wakasawada station to the beach) there is plenty of guest houses that are affordable and within walking distance to the beach. The sunset at Wakasawada beach is truly one of the most spectacular I've ever seen and even better with an ice cold beer on the deck of one of the beach houses. Wakasawada is the hidden gem of Fukui and Japan.
