We visited this hidden glistening gem on a cold and sunny December day. The complex is rather small, very tidy, cozy and peaceful. It nestles on the lower bank of the Oka river which is sandy - hence the name. Documents first mention a monastery here in the XVth century. It was Russia's border at that time and the structure also served as a fortress defending peripheral lands of the tsardom (usual role of such fortified places of worship in the times passed). Naturally, monks lived there, not nuns. The latter appeared here only in 1993, after the collapse of communism in the Soviet Union, and have done titanic job to return it to its former splendour. Every square centimeter bears a touch of female hands. I can't say that all is in impeccable condition - restoration works are not finished yet - but the place is really charming. There's a winter garden inside one of the churches (!), they also sell freshest dairy and simple bakery products including pirozhki (yeast-leavened boat-shaped buns with different fillings) as well as home-prepared kvass (fermented beverage made from rye bread). This, however, does not happen daily so it depends upon your luck. Entrance is free, of course, but mind the dress code - modest clothing, no trousers or miniskirts for ladies. Taking pictures is not welcome either, especially when nuns are in sight. Behave calmly and in a reserved manner. The road to the complex is beautiful - imposing coniferous forest. Locals call it drunken because of the way's constant zig-zagging among the trees. Funny. After examining the nunnery do walk to the river. You will like the view of Kashira town standing on the hills of the opposite bank, especially if the weather is good. And if it is good why not to take a swim? Strongly recommended!

If you are looking for extreme feelings there is nothing better than a flight on a jet. Maximum speed is 800 km/h , maximum hight of a flight is 11500 meters, and the load factor gets to 6G! This will impress anyone, who sits in a cockpit!
