After driving up from Hvar port to Stari Grad, we walked around the old town and the surrounding for a while. To walk by the lavander fields was so exciting, although we got tiered soon. It is very hot during the day in late June. Biking would be a better option, there are plenty of them. Beautiful place indeed.

The is a very interesting castle in the town of Stari Grad. It has a beautiful garden and pond. If you are in town it is definitely worth seeing,

Lovely spot at the end of the harbour with a quiet beach, a stone parapet to jump off (no beach as such, but this is not the area for gently sloping sandy Beaches anyway), and shady pine trees. Sadly the bar was shut and seems to be out of action for the season. Fortunately there is a pancake stall that kept everyone happy - being too hot to walk all of five minutes back to town to one of the bakeries that do excellent sandwiches and pizza slices.

In the midlle of the quaint old town but it was closed for repairs.
Still lovely to view from the outside. The square with the church and the bell tower. The limestone and colours.... Peaceful. We were standing in the small church square compounds when we got a fright when the bells rung.

Just above Stari Grad there is nice hill (111 m) with small church with improvised Amphitheater and also remains of the old fortified settlement.
You can easily reach it from the town and path is clearly marked.
There is another approach from the south side which brings you to the road to Rudine.
From the hill view is beautiful (which can be seen from the photos).
Please do not climb in the heat of the summer but in the morning or evening when sunset can be breathtaking (but you need lights for going down or at least smartphone with light).

Lampedusa bar offers you opportunity to try some of our signature cocktails, classics, highballs and premium G&Ts all made with fresh ingredients and local products. Visit us and enjoy Stari Grad :)
We stopped in for two iced coffees, but they didn't serve ice cream (iced coffee in Croatia is a shot of espresso, a big ball of vanilla ice cream, covered with whipped cream and chocolate syrup). We settled for iced tea and Schweppes Bitter Lemon, which were both good - what could be bad about Lipton Iced Tea and Schweppes?? A few doors down a different coffee bar served ice cream and served iced coffee, but we didn't know that at the time.

That's one nice litle church! It is really small and it is under street level. Sometime is very relaxing music inside and never see anybody inside so it's very relaxing.

This monastery, founded in 1482, is on the edge of the old quarter. There is a small museum where you can view the painting, "The Mourning of Christ", by the Venetian master, Jacopo Tintoretto (1518-1594). The grave of the poet, Petar Hektorovic, is located in the monastery church. To learn more about him, visit his home in Stari Grad, Tvrdal Castle.

We are avid hikers and asked at the information centre for advice. The main thing that they said was that the trail was not maintained. That would be an understatement. There is a clear lack of information, instruction and signage. There are green poles scattered on the hill which may have at one time contained helpful information. Used our GPS and still found the trail difficult to find. Took way longer to get to the top. Once there disappointed by the view. If you go which we would not recommend definitely take lots of water and wear long pants. All in all we would give it a miss.
