The Detroit Zoo has 125 acres of naturalistic habitats for more than 2,000 animals from anteaters to zebras and features award-winning attractions such as the National Amphibian Conservation Center, Great Apes of Harambee and Arctic Ring of Life. The Zoo’s newest attraction is the spectacular Polk Penguin Conservation Center, the largest facility for penguins in the world.
Although we visit the zoo regularly, we love spending New Year's Eve at the Zoo for Zoo Lights! It is so awesome to walk the park in the dark by the glow of the millions of lights they have depicting various things, as well as the dancing lights! The 4D show, hot chocolate, specialty liquor and beer, and local food favorites are also available.

Marvelous place for families, couples, kids... to play together and smile! They have even had weddings there! Likewise, it is a fascinating journey through time to savor the enormous collection of old-time arcade games (all functioning!), carnival relics, wild signs, and so much more. Just plain fun! There is no charge to enter... you can play (using quarters) or just look around (though, who could resist trying the games and machines?!) as you munch on popcorn, etc. that they sell.

The Holocaust Memorial Center Zekelman Family Campus opened in 1984. Local Holocaust survivors, with community support, founded the museum to teach about the senseless murder of millions, and why everyone must respect and stand up for the rights of others if the world is to prevent future discrimination, hate crime and genocide. As Michigan’s only Holocaust museum, the Holocaust Memorial Center annually touches the lives of more than 85,000 individuals, who leave the museum profoundly affected with a newly acquired sense of history, social responsibility and morality. The Holocaust Memorial Center’s exhibits create a call to action, teaching visitors through the examples of those who risked their lives to save others, and asking its guests to react to contemporary challenges such as racism, intolerance, bullying and prejudice.
We really enjoyed the guided tour of this somber memorial. The knowledgeable guide filled our heads with 90 minutes of very interesting history as he led us through the exhibits. I feel like we could go back for another couple of hours to see the displays in more detail.
We've been to several concentration camps in Germany and Poland. While this memorial is not as ominous as the actual sites, it does an excellent job of contextualizing the crimes perpetrated by the Nazis.
Really a fascinating place to visit.

Voted "Best Place to Buy Original Art and Local Craft" by HOUR Detroit magazine, The Rust Belt Market is the intersection of creativity and business. Its founders transformed a vacant big-box store into an event venue and hub of 50+ independent retailers-offering a unique mix of goods both handmade and collected by local artists. Explore and leave inspired.
The site has gone through many incarnations, including an Old Navy Outlet store. It is currently a denizen for many local entrepreneurs to open a space to sell art, t-shirts, furniture, vintage games, scuplture, natural soaps herbs sachets, and more, historical photos, memorabilia, and more. Funky, fun, lots of great Michigan stuff.
Some of the venues will take credit cards, some are cash only

An awesome place for food, shopping, people watching & exercise. All the high end designers, anchored by big box stores Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy's & Nordstrom, are here.
The food court blows all other malls out of the water. Just walking around the mall gives you miles of exercise as you window shop & people watch. If you can't find it here, you aren't trying!

I love this theater. In fact it's the only theater I ever go to! Plus, the fact that you can take in an awesome beer or some fantastic coffee makes it even better. Also, the food is good and always very fresh.

Irene's Myomassology Institute offers affordable massage to the public. This nationally accredited massage school operates a professionally run student massage clinic where senior students provide therapeutic massage. Each student works in a private office with faculty members available to answer any questions the client may have. The massages are such high quality that the clinic books up fast. It is best to call for an appointment. A one hour massage is $40, with a senior citizen discount a massage is $30. For veterans and active military the price is $25. Visit the school website to see what Irene's has to offer and to see photos of the school. The school also has Crazy Cheap Yoga classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. One class is $5 and a card of 12 classes is $36. The school also hosts Free Friday Night Massage Classes every other month. Vegetarian cooking and holistic health lectures are open to the public. Call for more information!
This school offers student massages to the public (by appointment only). The hourly rates are very reasonable and the students are eager to impress and practice their skills on a wide variety of clientele. Be prepared to fill out a written feedback form each time you go here.
You can specify if you want a male or female student to perform your massage, or if you don't care, you will get whoever is booked for the day. Every massage I have ever had here has been very good or excellent. I have never had a bad experience, and have been here maybe 15 times. The small massage rooms are just like a typical spa -- quiet, dim lighting, etc. They do offer gift certificates and senior discounts.
In case you are wondering, this is a legitimate school and there is no sexual overtones to the massage. (The students encourage you to disrobe for massage only to your personal level of comfort.)
Every client I have ever seen here seems "normal" to me -- maybe fewer of the beautiful people here than in some other places -- this school seems to cater more to housewives, midlevel professionals, college students, etc. I have seen clients from about age 18 to 75+.
Parking very close. Flat walking surface. Small shop on site to purchase massage items and other health items. Highly recommend.

This is a great theatre. Seats are great, except for one thing....they're so comfortable, you might fall asleep. Free refills on popcorn and sodas and super nice personnel. Didn't like the fact that there was only one operational elevator the day we went, but other than that, it was a great experience.

This is my favorite hands down place for massage. The owner is capable and caring. The atmosphere is calming. There is no doubt that I will leave feeling relaxed knowing that problem areas have been addressed. Obviously massage is a personal experience but I feel clients are treated professionally with a real care and concern.

I came here on a Friday afternoon to watch The Mountain Between Us. The theater was kinda old with interesting antique architecture. The chairs were alright, not as good ad the recliners at Erskine. It was similar to the AMC classic Fairlane in Dearborn. I was surprised how many people there were in the theater since it's during work hours. The movie was bad, but the theater was alright. Prefer the Emagine in Royal Oak though
