Lots of trails here and they are now pretty well marked but also be certain you know the way - how to get in and out! Easy 45 minute walks to 5+ hours of moderate to strenuous hiking over rocky terrain and along the ocean with lots of ups and downs and hills to scramble! Exquisite ocean views and charming spots to picnic or take a break; it's so worth the hike. Lots of friendly people and their dogs along the way; also be prepared to step aside for trail runners! Also breathtaking views along East Sooke Road if you just want to drive.

These rock formations have become a popular local swimming area.
This is a place we visit every time we come to the island in the summer. The water is crystal clear and awesome for swimming. The current is so gentle, it’s safe even for the little ones. Our teenage boys love cliff jumping and this is a great and safe place to do it.

The Sooke Region Museum & Visitor Centre is a community museum that explores the human and natural heritage of the region from Sooke to Port Renfrew. The museum also operates the local visitor information centre for the region. We have both exhibits in the main museum building and around the grounds. In the Summer we are open 7 days a week. In the off season we are closed Mondays and most Stat holidays. Starting the first Thursday in June, and running until first Thursday in September, we host a night market from 5pm to 8pm and museum stays open during this event. We also usually are closed over Christmas and the first week of January. The museum holds various special event during the year, has a gift shop with local arts & crafts, plus can do special meals for pre-booked tour groups.
This is just outside Sooke town centre near the bridge. We always take our friends and family visiting us there. They always buy something as it has very reasonably priced souvenirs with good quality and we buy as gifts for family and friends when traveling like mugs with humming birds on them and the Sooke name It has a very well presented museum of Sooke and the surrounding area with a good and friendly information centre.

We were looking to ‘kill some time’ during a recent visit to Sooke and came across Ed Macgregor Park, located with easy access and a parking lot in central Sooke. It was a terrific way to spend an hour. The upper part of the park is beautifully landscaped, with tasteful artworks and landscaping. There is also a public washroom at the top, although it was closed at the time of our visit but there was a port a potty instead. Follow the lovely path which crisscrosses on a beautifully constructed pathway with railings down through a forested area to the water, where there is a charming boardwalk extending out into the basin that affords scenic views of the harbour and the mountains beyond. During our visit, we enjoyed watching some of the locals catching crabs. A very lovely part of this small community that I’m sure the locals are proud of—highly recommended!

We hiked around the paths on lake (not the main bike route), it was an absolutely beautiful walk, well sign posted and a lot quieter than anticipated. We went for a swim in the lake and had a picnic before hiking back via the lake and cedar trail, about 12km in total, really great walk

Cute little showroom just around the corner! Stop in and taste their small batch spirits. I was in a hurry but managed to try most flavours! They also have some small bottles which make the perfect gift to take home to others.
