This museum is home to a large collection of artifacts from the Old West and tools of the modern cowboy.
This isn't someplace I'd travel long distance to see, but if you have some extra time and you're in Sheridan (and you're in interested in "western stuff and history) you might like this place. I visited for only a few minutes and I thought it was cool. It's best feature is it's FREE!!!!.

We drove up thru the bighorn mountain range. I saw two moose, cattle grazing, as well as sheep wondering around freely protected by by two large great Pyrenees's dogs. The overlook area at shell falls was closed for renovations but the area is beautiful.

Constructed in 1892, the Historic Sheridan Inn gave adventurous travelers a taste of Eastern luxury in the West. Through the years, the Inn has remained a hub of activity, offering elegant New Year's Eve balls and the town's first electric lights. Buffalo Bill Cody sat on the front porch of the Inn auditioning acts to join the "Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show." The Inn is on the National Register of Historic Places. In October 2013, Bob and Dana Townsend became the newest owners of the Inn, bringing 21st century luxury to the 19th century building. The Inn is now open for overnight stays, banquets, weddings, business meetings and tours.
A delightful stay overnight on our way from Rapid City to Cody. We stayed in Bronco Billy's Room. Had a spacious walk in shower , comfortable bed and a lovely treat waiting for us when we arrived, homemade scones! The bar was given to Buffalo Bill by Queen Victoria and is just beautiful. There is a beautiful old beaded chandelier in the ladies parlor. We had breakfast the next day in a large dining room. The room is also used for the local Rotary Club weekly meetings. It has been restored and the staff was friendly and informative.

Trail End State Historic Site is a fully furnished historic house museum that interprets the time period 1913-1933. Visitors step back into time to catch a glimpse of what life was like for John B. Kendrick, a rancher politician, and his family. Hours: April 1- May 31: 1:00-4:00pm daily June 1-August 31: 9:00 am- 6:00 pm daily September 1-December 14: 1:00-4:00pm daily Closed: Veteran's Day Thanksgiving Day December 15-March 31
A beautiful, stately home in downtown Sheridan, called Kendrick House by locals. The Kendrick life story is amazing - leaves Texas at age 15 on a cattle drive to Wyoming, stays there, and ultimately becomes one of the West's most prominent ranchers and largest land owners, then the Wyoming Governor and a U.S. Senator for three terms. Perhaps the only Governor or Senator who is also in the Cowboy Hall of Fame. He was Senator during WW1 - actually visiting the front lines in Europe - and there are excellent write-ups outside every room describing various facets of the tremendous U.S. effort at home, supporting the approximately 1 million troops, during its 2-year participation. The amount and beauty of the woodwork in the house is extraordinary, and it was very high-tech for its time. Only $4 and well worth an hour or two.

A historic battlefield.
I've been interested in the Fetterman Fight (Battle of The 100 in Hand) for years. So I REALLY enjoyed seeing the place where it happened. We had an enthusiastic staff member give an overview of the battle at the museum, and watched the short film. We did not tour the fort site, just drove up the hill to the Fetterman monument to get a sense of the lay of the land. The historical connections between this battle and Little Bighorn are worth contemplating. My guess is that you have to be interested in the INdian Wars to really appreciate the site.

We had just been to the Fire Rock in Casper and The Mint Bar in Sheridan and had a Blacktooth Brown at both locations. It was now time to check out the brewery that makes the wonderful Blacktooth Brown brew. A very nice brew pub with comfortable seating and a well decorated bar area. We met Monica who was working the bar and she provided us with a selection of memorabilia glasses - one can never have enough beer glasses - that all have a story. The story was simple - A Blacktooth brew at The Mint Bar, lunch from the Midtown Cafe, and a stop at the Blacktooth Brewery. Check out the brewery and say "hi" to Monica.

Nothing out of the ordinary. They have information and maps about the area. Interesting large information panels outside. If going to Sheridan, pick up a self guided walking tour of the historic downtown and railroad district. Interesting, but a little confusing in the railroad district, the directions tell you to turn north or east or west. A visitor to the area would probably not know the directions. Would be better to indicate turn right or left. Easier to follow in the downtown area. Some great late 1800s, early 1900s buildings.

The WYO Theater in downtown Sheridan is a beautiful Art Deco theater featuring music, plays, and the occasional live-streamed opera from the Metropolitan in NYC. It has great acoustics, so it's an excellent place to appreciate everything from the amazing local talent to the excellent road shows put on throughout the year.
It is very well-run and user friendly and is the hub of the community's cultural life.

If you're visiting Sheridan, this is really worth a visit -- it doesn't look like much from outside, sort of sits in a hotel parking lot near the highway. But the exhibits were surprisingly good -- very interesting diverse collection of mining, farming, etc. for a small museum. It really gave you a good idea of the foundation of the area.
