Hochstetler's Country Store

Reviewed By ramona0101

I brought the kids to Hochstetler's Country Store for ice cream after visiting Upper Whitewater Falls in NC. It was quite a drive, but the reviews told me it'd be worth it. They were about the close when we arrived, but served us first. We got minty chocolate chip and salted caramel vanilla. The Nestle ice cream was really very creamy and excellent, and their waffle cones were perfectly prepared.
While the kids were getting their cones, I noticed the store is also a health food, bulk foods store as well. I picked out a bag of honey sesame sticks and a plastic container of flax seed chips as well. When we opened the flax seed chips for our Turkey burgers that night, they were terribly stale. I looked at the date, and it had been "packed" April 2017. No wonder they were stale! Ugh! So,if you shop here, check dates carefully.

We travel for weeks sometimes months every year in our RV... needless to say we've parked at many different RV resorts and campgrounds. This one is definitely at the top of our list. Love all the waterfront sites and even if they're not they have beautiful views. I think I would've given this place 5 stars had it not been for the restrooms. In the shower stalls there were multiple spider webs and critters. It's hard taking a shower when you have a spider or two lowering itself over you. There were also ants on the floor I just had to (try to) ignore. If camprounds/park/resorts all realized how IMPORTANT a clean shower area is to people I guarantee you they'd be in there daily cleaning them... which in turn would make it quicker and easier for them to KEEP clean if it was being done regularly. Sigh. Too bad. This could easily be an A+ place if they were tended to.

Historic Old Pickens Church and Cemeteries

Historic Old Pickens Cemeteries, Kiosk and Grounds are open for visitors every day of the year during daylight hours. Old Pickens Presbyterian Church is open from 2:30 to 5:00 every Sunday afternoon from April through October. The Church is the lone remaining building of the town of Pickens Court House. It sits on the old Main Street (the old Cherokee Nation War Path) on a hill above the Keowee River.

Unfortunately the church is open very infrequently but we did visit the cemetery. There are some really old headstones lots of them that have also crumbled over time. Keeps you wondering who they might belong to and how old they are.

Bertha Lee Strickland Cultural Museum

Oconee County's premier cultural exhibit museum focusing on the rich, sometimes turbulent history, culture, and contributions of local African Americans. The exhibits & events blend technology and tradition to create a meaningful and educational experience for all ages. The museum teaches about people of the past and present whose stories will impact generations.

Reviewed By YouveGotAirMale - Atlanta, Georgia

This museum is listed as Premier, it is very far from a premier location.
Very small, not a lot to see or learn.
Not in the best part of town.

It is not really a cultural museum as it is a display of African Americans in Seneca. You can walk in and see everything is 20 minutes.

Check out the other museums in the county for more variety and culture.
