Site of the oldest lighthouse in America.
Lovely area, nice fishing beaches, historical defenses, great for walking, biking and all sorts of water sports. Just lolly gadding on the beach, exploring the area. This is a great place to be and enjoy with families. Gunnison beach is best. Only problem with it being a carry in carry out area is that there are slutty people who leave their trash behind, piled up in what are otherwise good restrooms and shower areas, of left on the beach. Enjoy all the same.

Heading toward Sandy Hook the turnoff for Lighthouse Road isn't marked, so be careful. Lighthouse Road is also a narrow road, too. But well worth the effort getting here - even without binoculars could see the Verrazano Narrows Bridge. North Tower has a tight spiral staircase but well worth the climb and view. Lighthouse "passport stamp" available here but they no longer offer the sticker for NJ's Passport to Adventure. Clean bathrooms, but did not see changing table in men's room. Great exhibit hall as well - when I went, they were showcasing different US flags.

Recently took advantage of an Academy award movie series they were offering. I was really impressed with how the theatre has been transformed. There didn't seem to be a bad seat in the house - décor was really well done, I look forward to going back.

Brewery Tours on Wed & Thur 5-8PM, Fri 4-8PM, Sat 12-8PM, & Sun 12-5pm. The entrance to the brewery is 6. E. Washington Ave. However, please park in the lot located at 120 First Ave, Atlantic Highlands, NJ.
My twenty three year old twins and I have been enjoying craft breweries this summer. Took a day trip here and we were not disappointed. (Only a 45 minute drive from Maplewood,NJ.)
A brief, three minute tour for first timers is required and was informative. Then, you can go upstairs to the tasting room. For $5, you get a sample of Boat and five poker chips to use on your choice of drafts. All 4oz pours. As it was Saturday, seating was limited and space is small. However, beer is delicious and bartenders were very knowledgeable and friendly. My favorites were: B.D.G.,Nitro Milk, and The Wit Whale. Loved the Wit Whale! Loved the variety of choices and honestly, thought each had character and unique flavor.

I grew up minutes from the track but never actually went to a race until recently. I had no idea what I was missing. I attended the track for the first time last fall for a jack o'lantern festival. I had such a great time, that I went to two more festivals, a seafood festival and a wine and chocolate festival in the months after. There is a picnic area and you can bring your own food and alcohol in. However, during the festivals, they bring in awesome and delicious food trucks! They have several places inside where attendees can buy alcohol too. For us first-time horse race watchers, they have a tent where you can learn how to bet. This information is also in the program that you can purchase at the entrance. The races are spaced far enough apart that you can get food, more drinks, and place bets between each race. I look forward to my next event at this historic track! If you bring your own water bottle in, you can refill for free at the water fountains.

I went with my daughter and two grandchildren, ages 9 and 6. The waves were too rough for them to be comfort in the ocean, but they enjoyed both walking the beach and digging in the sand. The playground was a definite hit! The bathroom was clean and there are outside showers.

If you haven't been, go! & make sure you order something off the new drink menu. A great time in a tiny, tucked away spot in Rumson! If you find it, you'll definitely have a great time!

Having spent most summers on the Cape or Martha's Vineyard, I had never been down the Shore specifically to Sea Bright. My family gathered to celebrate my son's wedding to a Jersey Girl. Our Boston family plans on returning next summer to Sea Bright - the beaches, people, food are better than the Cape!

What is this I see? A bar in Monmouth Beach hidden behind the police station in a residential neighborhood? There is no sign on the bar? What is its name?
This is the best bar in Monmouth Beach but you have to first locate it. You could drive or bike right by and not recognize it (thankfully there are some beer signs in the building windows that help identify it as a watering hole for the thirsty traveler).
You will find no food here, except perhaps some Beer Nuts. But you will find a fine selection of craft beers on tap, the longest shuffleboard table in the county, a pool table, multiple TV monitors, and classic rock playing in the background. Pull up a stool at the old-school bar and relax.
Behave yourself or you run the risk of being banned from the bar for life, and that would be a shame.
