Easy access and worth the time to visit. We have 2 small children and had no problem getting to the falls. The paved path makes it easy to push a stroller. There wasn’t a lot of stairs so we were able to tote the stroller when necessary.

Mark Of The Potter is the oldest craft shop in the same location in Georgia. For 44 years now we have endeavored to provide the best functional stoneware by our own potters and specially selected potters from around the southeast and U.S.A. We are located on the Scenic 197 Moonshine Highway 10 miles north of Clarkesville, Georgia. Come visit us and then write a review. We appreciate hearing what our customers like and what we could do to improve our shop.
Very authentic and down to earth. In winter, you'll be greeted with a warm, old style wood fire. Through the remaking seasons, enjoy the original pottery and the great location... trout stream, rushing water, big trout... God's country. It keeps drawing me back! Thanks for writing a review. We so glad you enjoy our pottery shop and beautiful setting.

This trail is listed quite accurately listed as medium difficulty. But first you have to get there. If driving from Helen, heading north, cross the mountain and as you end that wonderful, winding adventure and the road starts to level off, you can EASILY miss the turn for the gravel road, Indian Grave Gap Rd. You also must be willing to drive across the creek if you are to make it up to the parking section. Don't be fooled by those saying you need a 4x4 to do it, either. I have a DODGE CALIBER and I made it without incident. The ride up the mountain from there is plenty bumpy, but relatively maintained for what it is.
Once you arrive at the parking area, but there are only about 1/2 dozen spaces. Everyone else parks on the gravel road... be aware that finding a place to turn around can be tricky. The larger the car, the more difficult it will be. And it's more-or-less a one lane road by the time you get there.
The trail itself is quite nice, with occasional roots to maneuver and there was one large tree down about half way. Once you get down nearer the creek, there is an abundance of rhododendrons (in bloom mid summer... I was there july 9th and they were plentiful). Get about half way down the trail and you will start to hear the sound of falling water.
But don't be fooled. That is just the (beautiful) creek. You still have a ways to go for the falls. Cross the bridge and keep hiking. There are TWO falls so be sure to make your way to Blue Hole falls as well! There are no markings, so you'll either have to just follow path choices when you actually hear the falls. I recommend going the length to HS Falls first, then coming back to Blue Hole for a possible dip in the water before your hike back.
I am a bit crippled and walk with a cane in one hand, dog leash in the other. Departing the falls and getting set on the trail again was the most difficult, with the rest being your average hike-up-a-mountain, meandering back-and-forth across the rise.
This is truly a Georgia Gem! My only complaint, if there is one, is that kids were sunbathing in the middle of the falls and I couldn't get a picture without them. It seems that might be a local's form of entertainment so I'll let it slide... and just use photoshop to remove them. :)
Hiker? In Atlanta? At only about 2.5 miles roundtrip and a 2 hour drive from a major city, this is a definite day-trip must do.

Located in Historic Sautee-Naccoheee, The Lavender Cottage & Garden offers a variety of unique Lavender products, specialty gift items and local artisan goods. We offer an extensive selection of bath and body products made with organic and natural ingredients, Lavender culinary treats and an artisan room featuring the talents of our local community.
The Lavender Cottage has so many interesting items. A lot of handmade jewelry, clothes and artwork from local artisans. I bought most of my Christmas presents there last year and everyone was very happy with their gifts and it didn't break the bank either! YES!! it smells like lavender!

We hadn't been here for a while and told visiting family on a Sunday afternoon.
Really glad we did. Great history of the folk art pottery of Northern Georgia and the predominant families of potters. Also reminds one of the cultural changes brought by war, prohibition and technological changes.
Must see the short video as a primer. Some great footage.
In addition to the pottery, there is a small history museum we hadn't seen before that was very interesting and I recommend one take the time to look through and read what is good text. My wife, who studied SE Indian art, never knew there was an Indian Mound in the area.
Staff at the Pottery Museum was great. Helpful and if she didn't know answer to a question, went and found it. Very pleasant and engaged in her job.

This is a bit out of the way with almost no parking except along the roadside. There is an amost unrecognizable trail head that is quite steep. The path takes a bit of negotiating as there are lots of roots growing across. However, the falls make the trip very much worthwhile! There is a platform in the lower part of the falls that accommodates those who want to get a good picture of the falls. It was much more spectacular than we could imagine. The path might be very slippery during rain and is not recommended for those with walking difficulties.

The river runs right through the middle of town. From our hotel, the Hampton Inn, you could walk out behind just a few yards and be on the banks. There was a spot to walk down and get in, but since it was November, I just enjoyed the view. The mountain water is clear and the bottom was somewhat rocky. I'm sure it's delightful on a hot summer day. It's only a foot or so deep and about 15 feet wide so it's great for tubing, the perfect God-made 'lazy river.'

Visited during Christmas and walked into an old country store with wooden plank floors and a fire burning in the fireplace, how awesome! Baskets of candies, lotions, soaps, clothes, cheese and antiques. Something for everyone! They were offering samples of cheese and hot cider, oh to die for! We bought cheese, cider, candy, lotions and crackers. What a quaint shop, with super friendly staff who really made us feel like valued customers. I can't wait to return!

My wife and I stopped in to walk the trail around the lake. The staff in the visitor's center were super friendly and helpful. It took us about an hour to walk around the lake with somewhat of a brisk walk. Other than protruding roots to watch for, the trail is simple if you're in decent shape.
