We went on a Friday , it was definitely busy. Parking is down low near the highway, then a small bus takes visitors up the hill to the winery. There is no shade in the parking lot, so don't leave any wines in the car on a warm day.
We booked the afternoon Bottaia Cru tour, which started out with lunch on the top floor at the restaurant. We tried some Bolgheri wines with lunch, the Cont'ugo and Guado al Tasso. Lunch featured lamb chops and was delicious.
Carlotta was Our tour guide , and she's great. We got a look at the barrel rooms, the fermentation tanks, and the mini museum. Our visit concluded with a tasting in a glass enclosed dining room overlooking the barrel room. We got to taste the Tignanello, the Badia a passagnano gran selezione, and a Brunello.
We really enjoyed our afternoon at this exciting new facility.

We had stopped here while we were biking with On The Road In Chianti. The grounds and views were beautiful and we were greeted with different platters of antipasti, cheeses, breads and spreads. Our wine guide was so informative and interactive. She had us tasting the wines and discussed the different flavors we tasted afterwards. We were almost always wrong, but we got a good laugh out of it and it made us feel very warmly welcomed. There was also another group there who had come on their own just for a tasting and some appetizers which we had a great time interacting with, but the winery also did a great job of making us feel as though we were part of our group and tour when need be. We were then taken for a private tour of the grounds and facilities which was beyond impressive to see their set up and how established they were. They also have a small shop with hand painted ceramic pieces, olive oil dispensers and other delicate pieces. I loved the authenticity of all of the works of art and ended up going home with a beautiful serving tray and an olive oil glass dispenser, along with three different kinds of wines we had tasted. They were all so delicious and fresh - we just couldn't pick between them! Whether you are doing a tour or not, this is a place you definitely need to stop by for a quaint and delicious experience.

Casa Machiavelli

Steeped in history: the thick stone walls and cellars, and the vineyards and landscape beyond were home to Niccolò Machiavelli during his troubled, creative exile from Florence. He would eat and play cards every day at the Albergaccio inn, and at night, in the library, he would read the classics that inspired his rapid drafting of The Prince. Beautifully restored, it has preserved the rustic, elegant cuisine of the Tuscan Renaissance with a wine-making tradition of the highest calibre.

Our dinner experience at Casa Machiavelli was by far my favorite night and "optional tour" of the 10 day Trafalgar trip we took.
The grounds
-the setting of Casa Machiavelli is absolutely stunning. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and it feels like you are in a dream. Every direction you look in is beautiful, the scenery, the house, the banquet facility everything!
The Experience
- to start with when you arrive you are greeted with a glass of blue champagne. It is bubbly and delicious and you are given some time enjoy the views around the property
- next Machiavelli comes out to tell you a bit of his story and show you around his house which included a tour of the cellar
- next you are lead into the dining hall where you are wined and dined more than you could ever dream of!!
- to add to the whole experience there are performers with you for the whole evening. They are so talented and so much fun!! they sang and performed old and new American classics as well as Italian classics
- And you end the night with a bit of dancing.....so much fun!!
The food and wine
- there was more food than anyone could ever dream of having in one meal
- by far my favorite food they served was the truffle ravioli it was incredible!! I dream of having it again.
-The meal starts with vegetable appetizers, meat and cheese appetizers and bruschetta
- next up is ravioli and gnocchi (possibly a salad as well I cant remember)
- after that comes the largest plate of meat you will ever see!!! You could either have a steak or a variety plate of meat (which is what I had because it had chicken on it)
- and the meal is finished off with desert and limoncello
- the wine with the meal was fantastic!!!! Volare was my favorite of the bunch!! the chianti was great and so was the strawberry wine. The bottles just kept coming! you also had the opportunity to buy wine and have it shipped home if you would like
Overall one of the best experience I had in Italy. Such a fun night!! would love to do it again and I highly recommend it!!!

Old family type winery located about an hour out of Florence. We were greeted by the manager and offered wine upon entering. He started the tour where numerous barrels were stored and informed us how the various wines were made and housed. We then went to a tasting room to sample several types of wines and cheeses. Very informative tour.

This winery is so popular among visitors, I will say more for its architecture and modern design than for the wines. Environmental friendly construction, a beautiful piece of design. Go there with other expectations but the wine, even thou, the Chianti classico is pretty good. The tour is not a big deal. Just general information, nothing outstanding. However, if you go around lunch time, the restaurant located on the top of the building is really amazing.

Fattoria di Luiano

Luiano is winery is operating in a historical landmark, a fortress built in 1389 by one of the allied families of the Medici during their reign over the territory surrounding Florence.
