My wife and I are lighthouse addicts. Since 2015, we are on a mission to visit all of them. Forty Mile Point was number 55. We enjoyed our visit, even though the lighthouse itself was closed to the public. Loved the layout of the grounds. By the way, be careful of Poison Ivy. It is clearly marked on the grounds about it. Otherwise, recommend this great lighthouse to anyone who can and will appreciate them.

This is a wonderful paved bike path that extends from downtown Rogers City to the 40 mile Point light house North of town (about 10 miles). Some of the path goes right along the Lake Huron shore and part through the woods. The Hoeft State park is about at the halfway point and park visitors use this a lot. Since most of the path is fairly flat it is a great ride for kids.

Once we visited this park, we had officially visited all 5 Great Lakes... ...And this park immediately made Huron one of our favorites. The water is so pretty and clean! I grew up on Lake Erie and lived on Lake Ontario for a little while, so I’m not used to seeing such bright blue-green water at a Great Lake. (Erie & Ontario are very brown) Aside from a perfect Lake Huron experience, this is just a nice park in general. Plenty of places for kids to play (including playgrounds), hiking trails, and other activities. All the facilities are in acceptable conditions and there weren’t very many people there when we were, which made it feel like we had the park to ourselves (on a Sunday!)... There is a fee to get in. The ranger told us we could pay $9 and have access to ALL Michigan state parks, which of course we did.

We had a great time. The entire family enjoyed the fun and food. Will make this a yearly event. You must try the donuts. Also we thought the value for all you experience is wonderful.
