After doing our first-ever escape room at another location nearby (excellent experience) the day before, we had such a good time the my kids asked to do another. A quick search in my gps app for "escape" (thanks Waze haha), lead me Codeword Escape. I did a quick online search for reviews, all of which were excellent, and then we went about trying to figure out if the room options were age appropriate for our 8 and 11-year olds. We still were not too sure, so I called and left a voicemail. Within 5 mins a very friendly young lady called me back and helped us pick the Movie Mayhem option (we were waivering between that and the Christmas Gnomes room). We booked online for that afternoon ($2 discount for children under 12 was a nice plus). When we arrived, we really liked that the location has a private entrance right from the parking lot and that every escape room is private to your own group (perfect for social distancing safely during these covid times and was a must for us). We were greeting quickly when we came in by a friendly gentleman who had us sanitize our hands and who wore a mask. He showed us into our room and explained how it all works. We had only ever done one escape room before this (literally the day before) so it was new for us. The theming was very nice and well done. The puzzles were challenging for us (two adults and two fairly young kids). They did give us clues on a screen when they noticed we were stuck (which for us was quite often haha). The clues didn't give it away, but helped guide us to be able to figure out what to do next. This escape room was definitely more challenging for us than the room we did the day before at another location, but we were still able to "escape" (or rather, find the final item) with less than 2 minutes left! We really liked that the way items were revealed was modern (things would pop open when you solved something). The decorations of the entire place was very well done - classy and clean.

Dinosaur State Park

In August of 1966, bulldozer operator Edward McCarthy was excavating a rocky site for a state building. He turned over a slab of gray sandstone and saw something very exciting: six large, three-toed footprints. Within a few weeks of the discovery, state officials decided to preserve the site as a state park. Two seasons of careful excavation resulted in one of the largest on-site displays of dinosaur tracks in the world. Fossil tracks are named independently from fossil animals. No skeletal remains were found at the Rocky Hill site so scientists speculate that the animal was similar to Dilophosaurus based on the shape and size of the footprints and the age of the sandstone where they are found. Hear more during our interactive track talk! The Park offers school field trips, as well as family-oriented programming on weekends, school vacations, and during the summer months. The Park has several days where admission is free over the summer in June and August!

Crossing the river on the ferry is a staple of my family. By car or park and go back and forth, either way is a great chance to watch the birds, look at the water, and breathe for a little while.

Quarry Park

Reviewed By agnitfom2000 - Glastonbury, United States

Quarry Park is an abandoned quarry converted by the town into a large park. The park is roughly 2 miles long and a half mile wide. It is bounded by Old Main Street on the west and Great Meadows on the east. A railroad track separates the two parks. A historic house (John Robbins house from 1767) is adjacent to the parking area. The park has three entrances, the north, south, and center entrance. The north entrance is the only one with parking. The south entrance is on a dead end street so a few cars could park there. No parking at all is available at the center entrance. This review describes a visit starting at the north entrance and looping through the park in a counterclockwise direction. One starts on the blue blaze trail and heads south. The trail goes along the top of the old Wethersfield Ski Hill. It passes the remains of the old 1936 Buick that powered the lift. Continuing further, hikers reach Lookaway Ridge. It is at a bench on top of a tall (~70 foot) cliff. It overlooks a pond, the southbound trail, Great Meadows, and much of Glastonbury and Portland. After observing the view, follow the ridge line until a trail veers off to the right. A steep rocky descent takes one down to the pond with geese and really loud bullfrogs. From here the southbound blue trail goes the length of the park. Continue down the trail to the south entrance. It is worth a detour to check out the middle entrance, though climbing a ridge is required. At the south entrance, one can return via the blue or yellow/white trails. The blue trail is most direct. It does pass a small cave. The yellow trail goes past the ruins of the Old Compressor House and Rocky Hill Stone Company. It includes loading areas for the old railroad. From the yellow trail one connects to the white trail and returns along the base of the ski hill. On the white trail once can cross the railroad and get to Great Meadows park. Wildlife in the park includes rabbits, chipmunks, squirrels, and numerous birds, including pileated woodpeckers. Depending upon the location, trees and ground cover vary greatly. On the south part of the park I found CT's only native yucca species. This park does have serious cliffs with 60 foot + drops. The worst cliff appears suddenly next to a park bench. Young children and dogs need to be carefully supervised. Hiking difficulty is variable. In most areas it is pretty easy but some short sections are steep and difficult, especially descending from Lookaway Ridge. In those areas hiking boots are helpful to avoid twisting an ankle. Admission is free. Dogs are allowed. Hours are approximately from sunrise to sunset.

Rocky Hill Ferry Park

Reviewed By ragiansanti34 - Staffordshire, United Kingdom

The Rocky Hill Ferry Park is a nice quiet spot right off the main roads (99 and 160). There are several places to relax, fish, appreciate nature, or have a picnic. It is very scenic place right now with the fall colors. The boat launch is open to the public. There is a Little Free Library next to the restrooms that offers children's and adult books. It is also right next to the Ferry Park Grill which is still open. The ferry service that is operated right next to the park, is the oldest continuous operating service on the Connecticut River. It runs between Rocky Hill and Glastonbury. The ferry service wasn't running today, it's best to check the official site if you are interested in catching the ferry. Get out and enjoy yourself before the bad weather comes. The Rocky Hill Ferry Park is a great place to take in a nice fall day.
