This easy walk along the paved trail turned into an excellent surprise ending! The views from the paved trail are very nice and they are doing a noble job to preserve and improve the area. The best part is the short bonus walk off the pavement. We didn’t find the dirt/rock trail to be difficult to manage at all and worth the little additional effort- the recess cave and waterfall was a big highlight of our visit to the Hocking Hills area Best of all is that it was not nearly as crowded as other spots

The nature preserve is beautiful with woods and longest natural bridge found in Ohio. It's a hike to get there (having a walking stick helps a lot) but well worth it. We went further and ended up at the Hocking River. It was a great afternoon and would certainly go back. It's worth the visit!

Beautiful park. Just as beautiful as Hocking Hills, but way less people. Hiked up to the top ridge near the barn 1800’s horse barn. Definitely not for the faint of heart - or really small children, was a steep incline and took about 35 minutes to get up the hill. First part of the trail seemed more like a primitive road - which made sense, it might be needed for the gas line maintenance in the region. Latter part of the hike (essentially downhill) had more “hiking” terrain, narrower paths...the tree canopy kept us nice and cool for the most part. Keep your eyes out for “bent” trees. Saw giant turkey buzzards, blue jays, the markings of palliated wood peckers, and other birds. Hiked about a five mile loop ending up walking near the river where it was fairly muddy on this day. Be careful here as there are some parts where you have to walk along the road...This part of the trail is also dog friendly. Bring water and bug spray, lots of deer flys and skeeters. Trails were well posted, there were free maps of the area at the parking lot, which were very easy to read. There are some pull off parking lots with limited parking (people were parking on the grass) and some areas where you could pull up along the road. Parking was free and there was a bathroom.
