Incredible experience. Frescos that are 2500 years and are beautifully preserved. A very interesting visit, surrounded by nature.

First visit to Bolsena and we enjoyed every minute of our one week stay! Nice beach on the lakeshore, food and beverages all around at very decent prices. Hotels right on the boardwalk. Weather was fantastic in July. Festivities all week through. We went sailing on the lake, made two trips nearby (orvieto and bagnoregio) and went to the weekly market in bolsena. All great experiences and fun. Would recommend to anyone with kids, small and teens.

The Popes' Palace is the most important monument of the city of Viterbo and it has become a symbol . It was built to mark the transfer of the headquarters of the Papal Curia in 1257 by Pope Alexander IV . Raniero Gatti strongly wanted this building and also built a large audience hall, now known as the "Hall of the Conclave" for the fact of having hosted the first and longest conclave history. Another characteristic part of the Palace of the Popes is the Loggia of the blessings (better known as the Loggia of the Popes) built in 1267: it overlooked the Pope coming from the Hall of the Conclave. Recently it reopened the sumptuous hallGualterio. The Palace is included in the tour circuit of the monumental Polo Colle del Duomo: free of charge with the purchase of the ticket is the audioguide in five languages (Italian, English, French, German and Spanish) that will accompany you in the discovery of all the areas you can visit.
It is unbelievable to see the preservation of this building and the medieval area of san Pellegrino. The Popo left the Vatican only twice in history and one was to move to Viterbo for a while. This event made this town rich in stunning medieval architecture and not only. A must see.

There are so many wonderful regional towns to visit in Italy, I had never heard of Viterbo until our recent stay in this very interesting town in Lazio. The historical centre which dates back to the eighth century was wonderful to explore, the architecture is quite different mostly built out of grey stone, one and two storey buildings with outdoor staircases, a particular feature typical of this town. We found many delightful piazzas and fountains as well as great cafes, gelaterias and restaurants in Viterbo during our stay. Viterbo was a great town to discover and so close to Rome.

This ghoulish park dates from the XVI century commissioned by the local lord… many oversize mythological figures and larger than life sculptures, the idea was to astonish (contrary of eyesight delighting, typical of the gardens of those days) associated to pain and monstrosity (the lord built this to cope his grief of losing his wife) . The place fell in centuries of negligence and abandonment until Spanish painter Salvador Dali brought back interest. Plenty of carpark as located outside the town of Bomarzo and wear comfy shoes. Absolutely to visit if in the area.

Once you have walked to this town, you see this church in the main square and you are just drawn in. When we were there, it was decorated for a celebration. Worth a stop while in this magical town.
