We couldn't stop at all the viewpoints because it was drizzling and really cold, but the ones we could stop at had the most beautiful views, everyone (ages 10 to 80) enjoyed the ride from San Martin De Los Andes to Bariloche, beginning and end to the Route of the Seven Lakes..

Stumbled across this photo spot as we drove to Bariloche. It was a good vlimb which provided panoramas of the lake for 180'. Great photo opportunities here.

This cascade has 4 falls and can be done by walk (not difficult at all) or by car. If you do it by car, bear in mind that parking lots are very clearly marked, you will have to pay attention to a few sticks that show the parking area.
I suggest you doing by walk as otherwise, there are some parts of the trail that you'll miss and that are beautiful.
I fully suggest you to do the walk in the morning, as the light shows the water color much prettier than in the afternoon.
Where the trail starts it's shown the names of the 4 cascades and the time it takes to complete the circuit.
Don't confuse 'Cascadas del Rio Agrio' with 'Salto del Agrio'. The Cascades are almost within the city, while 'Salto del Agrio' is some kilometers away.
Don't miss 'Salto del Agrio' as it's incredible beautiful.

This picturesque lake is riddled with small Beaches, many of which are deserted.
Alumine is a National Park and reserve. It is a huge space of Valleys, Andean Mountains, Patagonina Forests, rivers, very few dirt roads. As a reserve only native Mapuche families are allowed to settle down and live there. It is a magnificent, isolated area. The most amazing experience was when two Mapuche guys riding their horses AND a litle 8 year older were herding their sheep. The little boy was in charge and we had to wait in the car for about 15 minutes until they managed to have the full herd crossed on to the other side. It felt a bit like "Dance with wolves"; I have been to many different places in the world but this trip because of the magnificence of Nature really impressed me. All you need is a van. You cannot camp at the reserve so every night you go back to Alumine town and from there you start the different treckings. A unique experience, hard for me to describe in English. Mother Nature lovers should not miss this spot of the world.

This is a beautiful spot with the turquoise colour of the river between the two lakes surrounded by the snow-capped Mountains so has full marks for natural beauty.
However the signage off the main road is very poor, as it the dirt track to the river itself. The steps on one side of the bridge are dangerous and in need of repair.
We followed a little dirt track on the far side of the river, be very careful if it's wet - it was worth doing as the view at the end was spectacular.

The Espejo Lake was formed by glaciers, Located in the Province of Neuquen in Villa La Angostura and is part of the Seven Lakes ride.
It gets his name beacause the clean and peaceful waters reflect like a mirror the landsacpe as well as the sky and clouds.
The lake is suitable for children because it is very calm (this does not mean children should be left unattended)
There are bahtroom facilities but no rental of sunshades, so make sure you bring one. If you don´t you will need to get there early to lie down near the trees nor snacks store.
The lake shore is volcanic, or with rushes or rocks.

1) Siete Lagos ( seven lakes ). From SM to Villa la Angostura. 60 miles on the way out, on a good, paved road ( a couple of miles unfinished ). 60 miles return, on the same road. Very good. Beautiful views.
2) Meliquina Lake, Filo Hua Hum Lake, Paso Córdoba and Lacar Lake. Spectacular views of lakes and Mountains, strange rock shapes. 25 miles paved road and 110 miles on good gravel road. Not to be missed.
3)Junin de los Andes. 22 miles from SM, on a paved road. Very interesting church ( on asking a nun explains the history and the aboriginal scenes ). A very small
museum. Not much more. Half a day, if you have nothing better to do.
4) Quila Quina. About half an hour by boat from SM
( the road is narrow and bad ). Good beach, nice waterfall, Mapuches selling handikraft. Very good.
5) Huechulafquen Lake. 130 miles in all pn a good paved road. Beautiful lake, good view of the Lanin volcano. You board a catamarán at Puerto Canoas, which takes you to the Escorial : 400 years ago a volcano errupted, 10 miles away, and the lava river almost cut off the lake in two before solidifying, and forming the small Verde lake and the Epulafquen Lake. Awesome. Not to be missed.
6)Lolog Lake, small and big Curruhue lakes, the Escorial ( from the south, you walk on it ) and the
Epulafquen Springs. Good gravel road up to small Curruhue lake, poor to the Escorial and bad to the Springs. Very interesting.
7) Hua Hum, Chachin waterfall, Yuco península, Bandurrias viewpoint, Tromen rock and Mapuche settlement. 60 miles ( in all ) on good gravel road.
interesting.
Best time to go : November - April ( in January and
February too many tourists )
Other activities in SM :
Boar and deer hunting.
Trout fishing
Skiing and winter sports ( June - August )
How to get there : from Buenos Aires to Chapelco ( six miles away ), a two hour flight ( by Aerolíneas Argentinas : unreliable and costly ) or to Bariloche and
a three hour bus ride, through the seven lakes road. Fly
to Bariloche by Lan : much better and punctual service tan A,A,

We walked for 6kms or so up and through the Parque Nacional Lanin and around Lago Lacar to arrive at the island. The wind was up and wippng the water so we didn't try to cross over to it, but it looked very lovely and quite an oasis. It was pleasant and relaxing sitting on the beach opposite.

Horarios: A pie o bicicleta, se puede ingresar de 9 a 14 horas en verano y de 9 a 12 horas en invierno, debiendo regresar, respectivamente, a las 17 y 15 horas.
The 12 km path in the park is a good walk and there are some fine specimens of the trees near the eastern end of the park. However the 500 peso entry price for foreigners is hugely excessive. The trees can be seen elsewhere, Llao Llao has a few and we saw many on Chile’s island of Chiloe, especially at the national park near Cucao. The walk in this park is not special enough to justify the price for foreigners. Walking in the area around the Rio Correntoso is pleasant (and free).
