Gothic-era cathedral of golden sandstone with soaring stained glass windows and richly decorated West portals.
A magnificent feat of engineering and well worth a visit inside. Enjoyed Pilgrim Mass in this wonderful cathedral

The museum has the wellknown as the Sixtine Chapell of the Romanesque Art because of the 11th century romanesque frescoes, and the mythical chalice related by a recent research with the Holy Grail .
We took at chance on an English tour of this museum and were completely impressed! Besides the Holy Grail claims, their guide was fantastic and did a great job leading us through the history of carvings, paintings and their collections relics. They have been able to save many items from surrounding religious houses that no longer exist, so overlook the hype and enjoy your tour.

We spent a few hours slowly walking around the inside and outside of this beautiful building - there is so much to see and take in, so much detail in the construction, and the natural light inside shows off Gaudi's incredible talent.

The historic center with its streets and alleyways has large pedestrian-only parts, which make it a pleasure to roam. We enjoyed simply walking around and exploring the area.

All of the cliches about stepping back in time are actually true - we'd say perhaps 400 years or so? (The Mozarabic church is actually about 1000 years old...) We wandered around and above the village soaking up the mountain vistas for hours - above the village we gathered wild chestnuts, walnuts and apples, which were everywhere. The road into the village is a little wild - a narrow one lane for kilometres where you pray you don't meet a returning car (we met only one as we were off-season).

I had the castle penciled down for a visit. The exterior impresses much more then its interior. In fact, the internal area is just a field surrounded by the walls. However, it is worth the visit. The views of the church and the town is quite nice.

The Museum is sponsored by the Fundación Obra Social de Castilla y León. It explores the building's history and Antonio Gaudí himself, and houses 19th and 20th century paintings and works of art by Ramón Casas i Carbó, Raimundo de Madrazo, Joaquín Sorolla, José Gutiérrez Solana, José Navarro Llorens, Ignacio Pinazo, Nicanor Piñole and Joaquín Mir Trixet, among others. Gaudí's own particular brand of magic shines through in the details: the Catalan vaults, the cast-iron pillars, the stained glass windows on the first floor, the light in the interior patios, the wood and steel staircases and the attic space which affords access to the original turret from 1893, among other features. Casa Botines, whose corner turrets lend it an air of a fairy tale castle, is one of the most compelling pieces of nineteenth-century architecture in Spain. The Gaudí who created Casa Botines was a true architect; an artist with the skill to seamlessly blend technique and aesthetics.
We thought this would just be a basic tour of the inside of a building. The Casa Botines has a lot of information on Gaudi as well as a fairly large collection of paintings of the period in addition to furnishings and other information on the construction and history of the building. Worth a visit.
