The Reserve was established in 1999 as a part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR) System and is one of three NERRs in Florida. The Reserve staff manage the Guana Dam parking area, three beach lots (north, middle, and south), a trail system, the EEC, and a field office in Marineland, Florida. The Reserve’s 73,256 acres also includes Guana River Wildlife Management Area, Deep Creek State Forest, Stokes Landing Conservation Area, Fort Matanzas National Monument, Washington Oaks Gardens State Park, Faver-Dykes State Park, Moses Creek Conservation Area, Pellicer Creek Conservation Area, Princess Place Preserve, and the River to Sea Preserve, all of which are managed by separate agencies. The Reserve is an important economic, ecological, and educational resource for local communities. The estuary provides valuable ecological services such as a nursery, storm protection, flood protection, oyster habitat, and water quality. Its health is fundamental to the survival of endangered ocean species such as the North Atlantic right whale (Eubalaena glacialis) and sea turtles. These resources provide economic opportunities in the form of fishing, recreational businesses, and jobs. As a NERR, the Reserve conducts scientific research, stewardship activities, and educational programs. Some of the unique aspects of this Reserve are its rich cultural history, location by the first city in America, pristine and quiet beaches, and diverse habitats.
The Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Park is a beautiful place to take a hike either alone, with a friend, or with family. The paths are generally peaceful and lightly traveled, but watch out for the occasional trek biker coming through, as bikes are allowed on the trails. Choose from a number of different length paths and enjoy some time in nature. Leashes dogs allowed.

Jax Surf and Paddle did a great job from being timely to very informative. My three girls were stepped through the process from beginning to end. Their surf instructor, Walker, was awesome and his excitement showed which made the girls relax more and have a great time. I would recommend Jax and the surf experience to anyone!

wish this pier was open. but due to storm damage a few years ago, it is closed. We spoke to a local police officeer and he said the cost would be prohibitive

We live close to Mickler Beach so we constantly have to put up with the crowds and parking kerfluffle. Even with county shuttles the overcrowding is terrible. It is a nice place for a walk or bike when you get away from the crowds, though.

Played miniature golf and lost to my daughter. Bummer. But I beat her on the cars. Dad still has it. Laid around watching them enjoy the water fun. Loved feeding the gators. Nice family place to relax in warmer weather. The lines for the slide were long though. That was the only drawback.

Located next to the Library in Ponte Vedra, we were surprised at the number of birds actually at the park! There were a lot! Walking around the lake on the paved path was easy and reflective. There is also an interesting garden maze, laid out in the shape of a sea turtle. You don't have to be a kid to have fun walking through the maze. Don't worry, the bushes aren't that high that you would get lost.

We visited this park/museum after it was closed....after driving by it for 3 years! We couldn't go inside any buildings, but walking through and reading the information was enjoyable. We thought there was only a train, but there is so much more about the history of the area. Worth a stop if you've got half an hour to spend!

The biggest thing I'll note is its accessibility (= which made my client happy. The hard flat trails, boardwalk trails with rails.... She was very appreciative of it. It was also just super super pretty. My son enjoyed the trails as well :)
The parking lot is small and people without handicap stickers will park in handicap spots - that's both illegal as well as highly inconsiderate.

Very nice beach with two or three public entrances. Lots of surfers, people fishing, families and other sunbathing and just enjoying.
