Pondicherry’s bougainvilleas, crumbling cathedrals and leafy boulevards might occasionally make you wonder if you’re in the south of France instead of a former French colony. But it's also unmistakably Indian, with colorful festivals, the famous monument of Aayi Mandapam, and the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. Quiet beaches stretch north and south from town, good for swimming and sunrise strolls.

Temple situated in middle of white town and nust to do in town. Gracious lord Ganesha island huge temple complex surrounded by. Beautiful golden chariot is there as well. They do have carnatic music concert in evenings during important festival dates. On average you can spend 45 minutes to one hour inside the temple. Plan in the evening as as temple glows with lights.

Excellent old church with towering high spires just opposite to the railway station. Altar is aesthetically done. The Gothic style 100-year-old church with some rare stained glass paintings of the 28 saints who were related to the devotion of Sacred Heart of Jesus, is one of the churches tourists visit often and is a famous pilgrimage site for Christians. The red and white-bricked walls reminded me of my primary school days - the Sacred Heart School. Visit to churches is a true reminiscent of so many childhood days. Right at the entrance are inscribed these degrees: "I will sanctify this place, for my heart is here." Cheers to life!!

Visited on a full moon day which is extremely alluring. Enjoyed the cleanliness of the place, no vehicles are allowed from evening till morning. A walk on this beach in the evening or early morning with the sound of crashing waves and at times the sprays of the sea water are always refreshing. Must visit for watching the sunrise.

A spiritual experience sans any parallel. Ashram has stores where one could buy books on spirituality and photos of Mother and Shri Aurobindo. Quite an experience.

As the new year was approaching ,my niece booked a villa by name Gulkand,on the Serenity Beach for three days in Pondicherry on 28, 29 and 30 of December 2019 ,for a group of 10 of our family members, which is more than I would have asked for as a new year gift . Well , it was a seven hour journey from Bangalore by car . We were much delighted to find our villa with vintage charm ,situated right in front of the Bay of Bengal sea .There was a small kitchen on the ground floor with a garden and a sit out with bed rooms on top . Though accommodation was good ,maintenance and services have to be improved..... Along the seashore people were selling sea food in huts with local flavours .The beach is well maintained with many fishing boats parked there . There is a police station at the corner of the lane that avoided anti social activities .The crowd near the beach was sparse and decent .We had dinner and slept early as we wanted to catch up with the sunrise. Early morning we went to the sea shore when it was still dawn . As we were watching the sky , suddenly the sun rose like a tiny shiny ball at the horizon spreading yellow and red hues of rays on sea and sky alike and came out of the clouds increasing in size making the sea silver bright The sight of the fisher men's moving boats with the birds hovering above provided a spectacular sight .We built sand castles and collected shells on the shore . We didn't venture much into the sea as the waves and wind were strong . Later we visited Auroville ashram which is serene with beautiful trees . For lunch we went to Seagulls restaurant located on sea shore near white town .We had lunch watching the seagulls flying over the ocean . Pondicherry is famous for sea food and everybody enjoyed by experimenting with all types of sea food which was fresh and delicious. Food and drinks are cheap , in general .Pondicherry is famous for antiques and is a paradise for street shoppers . My children had a haul of western dresses and I bought dry fruits which are cheap here .The place is small and compact and the cross section population is simple ,friendly and contended . We feel joyous, homely and peaceful here...

I would go for morning walk and enjoyed the vehicle free road. In the evening we could enjoy sitting on the rocks and also went to many cafes there
