We visited on Saturday 17th June 2017 on the 10am tour. About 18 people entered the gate which was opened precisely on time. There is ample parking in the courtyard carpark. We were the only English speakers on the tour so whilst the main group got their commentary in Slovakian we were treated to a private commentary in English from the wonderful Matus. We started with the tank hall a few minutes after the main group. Matus gave us a thorough commentary on all the tanks and was very happy to answer questions. The display was complimented by a superb touch-screen multi-lingual information screen that covered all aspects and exhibits of the museum with pictures, facts and general descriptions. The second hall covers an array of armoured vehicles and the third includes a number of modern and vintage military aircraft as well as field warfare vehicles. Outside on the apron and on the grass is one of the finest collections of Cold War aviation hardware in Eastern Europe. The exhibits include fighter jets, helicopters and military transport aircraft. There are numerous Mil helicopters, MiG fighters (lots of them!), Let 410s, Antonov 26, Yak-40, Sukhoi, Antonov 2, Ilyushin 28... to name only a few. The aircraft are fairly well positioned for photography and Matus was happy to let us stop at each one for photos. The aircraft are kept outdoors so some are showing the signs of the weather but this only served to make them more authentic. The tour lasted approximately two hours but I think being in the private English speaking tour was a definite advantage as we were able to move at our own pace rather than being dependent on others in the larger group. As the title suggests, this is a tour for the discerning enthusiast so I suspect children won't be able to climb over the exhibits (a good thing in my book!). All in all, a fantastic morning in a very interesting museum with a top guide. I would recommend a visit to anyone in the area. Check the museum website in advance for the set tour times.

The Colonnade Bridge is a bridge over the Vah river in Piestany and it connects the town to the Spa Island. It is the longest covered bridge in Slovakia and a preeminent Functionalist construction with many precious art objects.
